2nd AC Makes A Ton Of Difference

Camping this weekend with the temps near 100 and the heat index over 110. Humidity in TN thick enough to cut with a knife. This site has a little more shade than our last one but at noon the sun was bearing down on it. Bedroom got down to 65 and the rear living area stayed around 72. Living area was 18 degrees cooler than it was a couple weeks ago. I think I made the right decision installing the second one. The DW is loving it and when she’s happy we all happy

I always told people, get the second AC option, never know when you’ll need it. Had one customer from MN insist he did not want it.

Glad it's working so well. I was going to install a fantastic fan in the bedroom but I think I'll wait until after the coming heat wave, I may just install A/C instead. I know it's fairly rare for hot weather here in the Everett area but it seems to be more frequent lately.

I totally agree with the title of the thread. Bought our 5er with only 1 AC installed. I should have insisted on a 2nd AC at purchase but thought it could be OK. WRONG! In a 35' 5th wheel a single AC simply cannot keep up when the weather approaches 85-90 degrees even if you make sure it's performing as optimally as possible. We had the 2nd AC installed and the difference was incredible. I don't know what the size of 5er is in which a single AC could keep up in high heat, or at what size that 2 AC's should be standard but I'm guessing anything above 30' should have 2...unless you live in an area than never gets above 80 deg during camping season.

If we ever buy another new 5er it will have 2 AC's...no question.

I live in Texas... two 15K units are mandatory even in only 35 feet

Of course temps make a difference, but down in NM, even with travel trailers, anything over 26’ needs two ACs. 5th wheels are ever more difficult to cool since they tend to have more separation between bedroom and living room areas. Travel trailers tend to be pretty much a straight box with doors/curtains to separate the rooms, low ceilings/walls, and only one level. Much easier space to heat/cool.

2nd AC Makes A Ton Of Difference

A little humor here, just in case you didn't know. The second air conditioner adds MORE that a "Ton" of difference. If it is a 13,500 BTU unit, it adds 1.125 Tons of difference. If it's a 15,000 BTU unit, it adds 1.250 Tons of difference. Ask, if you don't understand!

Yes that's true but the title wouldn't have sounded as good.

I just didn't how many people knew that 12,000 BTU is considered a "Ton". Glad to see that some of you know that and "rescue" my stupid comment out of the depths of really not funny.

Been doing HVAC for over 20 years. There are TONS of folks that don't have a clue what a BTU is.
