Black Tank Valve stuck

Appreciate any guidance as I searched the forum unsuccessfully.

My black tank valve to open is stuck shut. This happened last year once and after some frustration and a tank close to full I decided to pull withh all my might and got it open. It was fine rest of the year. Got camper all set up for the season and low and behold it is stuck again. Gray tank is totally fine.

After trying with all my might, I have been unsuccessful. I poured dawn soap down and hope that does something when Inhead back to camper next week. We have it parked for season so hoping someone has some wise advice. Very frustrating to say the least.

Thanks in advance!
Ken

If it’s a cable pull, you’ll need to spray some penetrating oil on the cable. I use Pb Blaster.

Not exactly sure as I can only see the rod that sticks out with the handles. I will pull apart the back and see if I can see/follow the cable. Thanks for the reply.

This is year 2 with the RV so still very much a novice! 😀

If it has a rod sticking out then it’s not cable actuated.

You may have h to I remove some screws to access the valve and spray where the rod enters the valve body.

I believe this is a photo of a convenience center similar to your trailer ???

If so, then the black tank valve is a "cable operated valve" and may be "corroded" or otherwise "stuck". Using PB Blaster or a cable lube may free the cable.

Essentially, the cable is similar to the throttle cable on a push lawn mower. It's a wire run through a sheath and can either come loose on one end and no longer work properly or can get "stuck so the inside wire doesn't slide any longer"...

The "rod sticking out" that Chuck is talking about is a solid rod between the "T" handle and the valve body. I believe that is not what you have, at least on the black tank valve... You may have a "rod actuator" on the other handle that's located under the trailer for the galley tank, if it comes through the coroplast underbelly liner and is a "straight shot to the valve body"...

Usually, the "rod type valve handles" are a "straight shot to the valve body" and in this case, the pull handle is above and forward of the black tank valve. It takes a "cable valve to reach from the handle to the valve body" ....

Hi JRTJH.. yes, that is the setup that I have. So will try the PB Blaster and hope that does it.
Thabks,
Ken

If you get it freed up keep working it back and forth while applying the corrosion buster. It takes a bit to get it deep in a long cable.
