Spinning bearings

Replacing bearings today. On one axle the bearings were spinning on the spindle. One side is worse than the other, quite a bit worse actually. This axle also had two different greases as well and the black grease was a lot more fluid than a wheel bearing grease should be.

Looking for opinions. I’m going to contact Dexter Monday to see what they think.
I’m guessing it did not have the proper preload allowing the inner race to spin and the incorrect grease didn’t help things.

I did replace all the bearings with Timkins.

How does the spindle feel? Have you measured with a micrometer?

It felt fine. No galling, pitting or any other roughness. It’s just burnished.

I did not take any measurements. My micrometer is at home.

The "Initial" install torque is 50 ft lbs then backing the axle nut off and "FINGER TIGHT" after that ....

I cant tell much from your pics as to status of the spindle other than Id use some crocus cloth and clean it up and press on...

Very good advice.

The threads in that second picture don't look good. It may be just a bad angle, but from what I can see they look cross threaded.

It looks OK when you click-on and enlarge the image.
