Mattress Purchase
I’m looking for a new mattress for my Cougar 24SABWE, Rv king bed (70X80). The one that came with it is toast after one year. I’m a bug guy, 6’ 4” 300.
What’s everybody else buying? Suggestions please.
Thanks

Late March, I got rid of that “Piece of CRAP MATTRESS” and ordered a new mattress from Mattress Insider. Needed a RV King Short (72x74)... they are hard to find! Ordered the Hypervent, mattress cover and a set of sheets to boot! ( as the sayin goes...”if Mama ain’t Happy ain’t Nobody Happy”!)
I used the code “rvlove” for 10% off!!! Saw the code on an RV YouTube channel

We bought a standard house king mattress. Layla 10 or 11 inch thick all foam. Flip able, soft on one side, firm on the other. Standard is about 76 inches wide. Used electric turkey carving knife and sliced off about 6 inches. A little Frankenstein stitching to the cover and now it's an RV king.

By the way, there is an official gray market for 99% new mattresses. When you buy a new $1000, $1500, $2000+ mattress and return it within the 100+/- day return window, the manufacturer has a 3rd party pick it up. Remember, returning is conditioned on no-stains, no tears, nor marks. The manufacturer lets the 3rd party people keep a certain amount of them and lets them re-sell them privately as used mattresses. We found a guy who was advertising on both Facebook market place and Craigslist. We bought a $2000 Layla Hybrid king-size (2 XLTwins) for $450. He's part of a franchise of mattress pickup guys. We had him find the all foam Layla for us. It sold for $999 new, we bought it for $380. He has access to many different brands. Since it's a franchise business there's probably someone near you doing the same thing. Might be worth looking into. By the way, he disinfects them with a spray solution before he sells them.

I'm sure all these are fine products and equally fine ideas, but keep this in mind: You will be sleeping up close and personal to 'foam rubber.' Give it any fancy name that the company likes, but unless you get a significant amount of insulating material (very thick mattress pads, etc.) most people will be sweating like.....! Anything that USPS, UPS or FedEx is bringing to you in a box is foam rubber. There are many, many mattress manufacturing companies in this country that will make a real mattress for you in any size. Yes, I agree, not for $350.00.
Zeno Mattress and Marine Bedding in Fort Lauderdale is one for example.

Mattress manufactures are roll packing innerspring mattresses as well today. As long as it has an individual encased coil unit they will roll pack it. If you don't like hot foam and you want responsive foam that doesn't break down research latex foam. I'm not going to go in any further details as Mattresses are like talking trucks, everyone has their own preference.

We just purchased this for the new Solitude:

Haven't slept on it yet, but huge improvement over what came in the new trailer.

What Jim talks about is true for us as well. And, like Kfxgreenie, talking mattresses is akin to talking gas vs diesel; we are all different with different likes and tastes.
We do not like sleeping on foam mattresses as we both can't sleep if we get hot and sweaty, which is what happens with a foam mattress for us. Tried a Tempu pedic and it was a no go. Bought one that came via mail and was rolled up for the MIL. She loved it....we did not.
We like "trying out" the potential mattress which is hard to do when it comes in a box. Like Javi, Denver Mattress has worked for us since they are in the same town as our RV dealership and will deliver our mattress to the dealer and get rid of the one that comes OE. We also like individual pocketed coils and a pretty thick mattress (think this one is about 13") so it would be hard to roll into a box. Just might try a Sleep Number next time simply due to all the positive comments we keep getting on them. In the end it's is 100% a call made by the prospective buyer depending on individual likes and tastes.

We use this. It is a combo of foam and springs, and came super-compressed in a box from Amazon. It weights a lot, but we've really enjoyed it for the camper. We bought the 8" queen size a year ago. No complaints.

Whatever you use in your house, use the same brand in your camper.
