Compartment doors pitted

Hello
We discovered 2 of our outside compartment doors have been damaged by what looks like spray from a shotgun. See pic below. Has anyone had this happen to their RV?
Any thoughts?

Thanks
Dyner

Yup.. it’s caused by water intrusion from the top hinge plate on top edge of the door.. water seeps down thru hinge mount and if RV is in freezing temps the door starts to delaminate

I think Chuck is on the right track. Obviously it's not shotgun spray....they don't do that in a line like that.

Maybe those new "fiberglass termites" that migrated to the states hidden in a shipment of TowMax tires ????

Really though, freeze damage sounds like the most likely cause. How to fix it ?? Either reskin the door, you can buy FILON from most any RV dealership. Cut it to fit the door, disassemble the aluminum frame, remove the old fiberglass, glue the new FILON to the old door foam and reassemble. Then, make sure you take a look at where the water came from. Likely the hinge along the top. It's known to cause issues. A generous bead of silicone along the top of the hinge part attached to the door will usually stop any further leaking.

That looks like gelcoat blisters that boats can get from water intrusion through the gelcoat.. I’ve had a few of them below the waterline on one of my boats .. especially when it stays in the water most of the year.. they are mostly cosmetic on boats although some Surveyers make a big deal out of them.. although the hinge idea makes more sense

Here are a couple of pics from one of my cargo doors..in one that’s partially marked in black I out a dab of sealant on the spots while waiting for replacement cargo door from Keystone

The second pic shows area circled in yellow of little pit marks where exterior surface is voided..

Also note the yellow arrow.. Keystone told me to apply a thin bead of sealant along the entire door mounted hinge to prevent further water intrusion when the new cargo doors arrived..

Both my cargo doors where replaced in 2017 well after warranty was up but after several “gentle emails” to Keystone customer satisfaction folks they footed the entire bill for both new cargo doors..

Note.. the dealership tried to have one door repaired by an excellent fiberglass shop but the issue came back in about 6 months so that’s why I think Keystone worked with me and replaced the doors

Applying the sealant along that top hinge where it mates to the door structure prevents water from “weeping down thru” the hinge attach rivets

Note. New doors have been on going on their fifth year now with no further issues of the pitting on exterior surface
