Sorry,
We installed the Micro-Aire Easy start. Good on line instructions with pictures and diagrams.

Just remember that it needs 8-9 times of starting to program its self. At least that was in the instructions that I received.

I installed 2 soft starts on our A/C's so we could us our 3500 w gen to run both units. Install was easy, just follow video for step by step install. Works like a charm, were cool and comfy while boondocking

Bob,

I recently installed the soft start on my Dometice Brisk 2. Works great. Wh Pulls only 11 amps, during start as well as continuous operation. I ran into only one problem. The instructions said to start fan first, then, after 10 seconds switch to the cool mode. This caused the unit to shut down. I re-checked all wiring and tried again--same results. The techical support representative had me replace all my but splice crimps with spade connectors--same results. While sitting down to compose a response, the unit started. I had forgotten that there is a three minute delay from selection to start. Best of luck.

Excellent question. Perhaps this is the item that Dometic sent to Canonman referenced in the second post in this thread.

I also have a Dometic 3kw genny that won't run my rooftop unit. I was looking at the soft/easy start option but now I'm confused as to the difference between a hard start and a soft start. Aren't they both capacitors of some kind? What's not confusing is the difference in price...$300US vs $26.

Here's an instructional video on how to install the Dometic part:

I think the difference in the names is just who is naming it. I would think they do the same thing. I was hoping someone had used this part and could let us know how it is working. Or if it is working. <g>

In simplest of terms, The inexpensive capacitor only is just a larger capacitor to give an extra "boost" on start up. The more expensive units are a computer controlled board that monitors and adjusts the power to the compressor.

Flybouy, that makes sense. Thanks.

I just got a reply from Dometic concerning their part number.

I do apologize. I was dyslexic. The correct number is 3310727.015.
