I came across a video on YouTube of an owner of a Keystone Springdale, a little newer than my 2017 model, whose tongue frame was bent when the trailer hit a bump as it transitioned from pavement to gravel along a construction route. He discovered this was a common issue on Lippert frames, typically built with 1/8 inch steel. Lippert and Keystone both said, "Not our fault!" I confirmed my trailer is built on a 1/8 inch steel frame made by Lippert.
A former worker at the Lippert factory confirmed in a comment this is an inherent design flaw in the Lippert trailer frames. He recommended owners of such frames take it to a welding shop and get the tongue reinforced. Looking at where the tongue on my trailer is joined to the trailer frame, the 1/8 inch plate that ties the tongue to the trailer frame does not inspire confidence.
Has anyone had issues with their tongues breaking or bending at the point where the tongue meets the trailer?
