Refrigerator question

We have a residential frig in our 290RLS. It works great when it’s plugged into shore power. But we’ve noticed that it doesn’t work when we are towing the Fifth wheel. We understand that the “inverter” is supposed to be “on” while using the battery. What is the best way to troubleshoot this?

Thanks.

Make sure your inverter is ON when driving, make sure it’s hooked up to the battery(s) and the disconnect is in the proper position.

Thanks. We had the inverter on and the disconnect switch off, plugged into the truck, but the frig won’t come on.

Well, the inverter converts 12vdc to 120vac. If you're plugged into shore power it feeds directly to your fridge outlet. If you try to run off the truck, or the batteries, it depends entirely on the inverter....or the batteries....or the connection to the truck.

How long do you tow when you notice this? Your batteries should run that fridge for several hours just sitting there without the truck or shore power IF the inverter is turned on and functional.

You didn't state the year model of your rv?
With the battery disconnect disconnected the batteries will not be charged when connected to shore power.
If the disconnect is wired like most I'd recommend turn it to "on/connected" & leave it. Typically they DO NOT completely kill all 12 volt power resulting in dead batteries in as little as a week, depending on battery condition, if being stored. If you want to completely disconnect 12 volt power remove the negative battery cable from the battery that goes directly to ground.
