Ducted AC Question

Considering adding a 2nd AC to my 30RLS. During my research I see references to "lateral" and "center" ducted models. I asked the Parts guy at the dealership which type I needed and he looked at me like I had 3 eyes. What is the difference between the two?

Center ducted runs in a straight line down the center between the two ACs. I’ve only seen that used on motorhomes. Doesn’t mean some trailers don’t have it, I’ve just never seen it. Lateral is more commonly known as racetrack ducting where the ducts make an oval racetrack in the ceiling between the two ACs. Easiest way to tell that is your ducts will seem to run down two distinct lines about 1/3 of the way in from each sidewall. That is more common.

Thanks for the info, I have the racetrack system. That was my guess but didn't want to research the wrong AC.

Basically the difference with yours the ducts go out the side of the AC unit, the other goes out the end. East/west vs north/south

Kevin I don't know where you went to check on that A/C but I would be concerned with a guy that couldn't even pull up your trailer and tell you what you needed. Adding a 2nd A/C on that trailer is a great idea, you looking at a 13.5k or 15k?

Label in bedroom vent provides numbers for a 13.5 but if I decide to add the 2nd unit I will likely go with the 15k. I have talked to one of the parts guys at this dealership before and found him to be very knowledgeable, he must have been off the day I was there. In fairness to the guy I talked with I didn't ask a question about my specific unit it was just a generic question about lateral v center ducted, I was killing time while the shop did some warranty work. I plan to do the install myself when/if the time comes.

Good. They probably know their stuff then. Depending on where you camp and how that 15k is probably the better option. Good luck on getting it and getting it installed, it will make a big difference.

Yep, go with the 15k, that's what I did and don't regret it a bit. Also make sure they order the plenum that works with the ducts, not as a stand alone. You're trailer is prewired so there should also be thermostat wires behind the light switch in the BR. I would look to verify...mine were right there.
