Converter problems

I'm thinking I have a bad converter. Brand new fully charged deep cycle marine batteries. Nothing works, however when I use jumper cables from my truck it powers up. Also everything works on shore power. I checked the fuses on the converter and they're good. No breakers are tripped . Any thoughts from anyone? I have a 2014 outback 316rl tt. Thanks

Welcome to the forum

If everything 12 volts works when plugged into shore power your converter is fine. If everything works when jumpered from the truck battery, I’m thinking you have a bad battery.

NEW doesn’t matter, years ago one of my customers got 3 bad batteries ion a row. I would disconnect the trailer leads and load test the battery.

Like Chuck said, pull the converter leads from the battery and read the voltage on them - 13.6vdc +/- (plugged into shore power). If it's there the converter is OK. Then we're back to the batteries...brand new? Are they hooked up correctly?

Thanks for the welcome ☺ . I charged the batteries with a charger just in case and was reading a full charge. I could hook up my old battery to find out. That's why I bought new batteries in the first place though , because nothing would power up with the old one.

Did you check after the battery was “resting” for an hour?

Any chance that you have a broken (or turned off) battery cutoff switch ?????

Resting mean no load for an hour.

Well, it worked ok when I had the jumper cables hooked up. I tried the disconnect switch and the switch worked fine both on and off the way it should.

Other than the batteries and the converter I don't know of any other components that would be the problem.

Charge you new battery. Then let it sit without anything hooked to it for an hour, then load test it.

If you have jumper cables connected to the truck battery and the camper battery posts and everything works, then I don't know what else it could be other than your camper battery. That's the only logical answer. By doing that, you are simply replacing the missing energy with the truck system energy. Noy if you had the cables attached somewhere other than the camper battery posts then it could be a different issue.
