Smile Lectric E-Bike Bumper Hitch Solution

We have 2 Lectric XP 2.0 electric bikes. They are awesome. The only thing that isn't awesome is the weight. lol

These puppies each way 65lbs a piece. Yes they do fold, but we would prefer not to fold the bikes each time we need to transport them.

Currently we have installed a Yakima tailgate cover to transport them. It's not a fun time having to lift a 65lb bike into the back of a full size Tundra. There's gotta be a better way.

I have a possible solution, but wasn't sure if anyone had any experience with this or perhaps have a much better way of transporting these.

I found these bumper supports on Mount N Lock.

Was thinking after those were installed, using this to create a 2" coupler for the bike rack to go into.

Finally this would be the rack. It's made out of aluminum and includes a ramp that stores inside of it.

Again, any tips, tricks, solutions, advice.... greatly appreciated.

Happy Camping Everyone!

If you are planning on mounting that on the back of travel trailer bumper, it isn't a good idea.

They just are not made to support much more weight than a sewer hose.

If you were to pull a very small utility trailer your brackets would be a reasonable idea, but only if you bought TWO kits and put a single bracket on each side of both tube/beams. But with you mounting those bikes that far out from the bumper the torque is WAY too great. This is NOT a good idea.

A couple of issues:
1. Electric bikes are 3x heavier than a traditional bike
2. The rack shown has way too much cantilever to be safe under any condition mounted to the back of your trailer.
3. Electric bikes are an expensive investment. You don't want take any chances of them winding up wrecked in the middle of the road someplace.

I'd suggest working with a reputable bike shop to get advice on a proper rack or carrier. Make sure they know you'll be using it with your trailer. Most will need a 2" receiver style hitch for safe use. You'll want to have this hitch installed directly to the frame of your trailer, usually welded by a good fabricator.

Biggest thing I can see is that if you go over an acute dip in the road, that setup will get scraped off.

Just an idea... I have one of these:
https://www.discountramps.com/motorc...rcycle%20Ramps

This type ramp made it easy to ride my 1980 GS1000G up into the bed of my pickup when I had a bumper pull. Lots of room for your feet to touch. I also a front wheel chock that you can drive the front wheel into and it would "lock" the front wheel into place. I also used tie down straps to ensure my bike stayed stable.
