Fresh water shutoff valve

I just bought a 2004 Keystone Zeppelin. I was trying to fill up the fresh water tank, when i was filling the tank up the water was coming out of a hose from the bottom of the trailer. Is there a water shutoff valve or does it need to be capped?? Thanks

water valve

Hi Patrick
Normaly where you see the water coming out the tube underneath your trailer there should be a white plastic end cap on the end of it. If you tighten the cap it will stop draining. maybe the cap is missing !

I agree with Ron. Those are likely your low point water drains designed to drain the water from the system. There is a cap on it that has to be tightened on, if you see no cap the other variation is a thumb valve but that is usually near the water connections for the camper.

My old Jay Flight had one of those that actually served as an overfill drain, i.e. if I overfilled the tank, the excess would come out a white tube on the bottom of the trailer. I'm not saying it's NOT your drain valve to the tank itself, but be sure before you go capping things.

If the unit was professional winterized they usually put the cap to the tank drain in the water heater compartment...

My Jayco also had the overflow, my Fuzion just spits out the fill port in the side of the trailer.

Two different things. Most RV FW tanks have a vent line on the fill hatch where you pour water in. Allows air to escape as you fill the tank and it does act as an overflow. That line is connected to the very top of the tank. Sounds like the Jayco's vent line was a separate pipe exiting somewhere besides the fill hatch.

But the line the OP is talking about sounds like the FW tank drain line which should hang out the bottom of the trailer below the tank. The drain would be connected to the very bottom of the tank. If water runs out of it long before the tank is full, that would pretty much verify that it is the drain and not the vent/overflow. Sounds like the valve fell off or the cap is missing.

My Jay Flight also had the vent at the fill port. Not sure why they added a separate overfill but I had one. I agree with you though. If his tank starts draining as soon as he starts putting water in....missing cap.

I finely tired of the little white caps on the fresh water and low point drain lines and replaced them with shut off valves from the local hardware store. Quick turn of the handle and they are either open or closed. The hose is attached to the fresh water drain as I'm in the process of flushing it out.

White caps

Valves sound like a good idea but they hang down so far as to be vulnerable to road hazards.

Thanks for the pictures.

I've had the valves on two trailers and never had an issue with how far they stick down.

If you don't see any caps on the drain lines, look for a compartment just above. Inside, you'll find a shutoff valve. Make sure it's closed. If it's closed yet still drains water--the valve is broken and needs to be replaced.
