Studs space

On a 2013 Keystone Passport 2910BHWE what are the stud spacing on the side walls?

In the RV industry there is no definitive spacings. For the most part they are placed wherever needed, less a few. Sometimes the more you pay for a unit the more you get, but not always. Ultra lite units tend to have less.

Sorry about the sarcasm, It's Monday, Waffle House still closed. Tired of take out.

A stud sensor would tell you or you could push on the walls to try and feel something...also see inside kitchen cabinets for screw spacing...curious why you want to know?

For a Filon walled unit look at the trailer during a "heavy dew" morning. The condensation will show the framing. Typically the framing runs around the openings ( doors, windows, hatches) and connects them from top to bottom. The few studs are just that, few with no apparent rhyme or reason.

As the others have stated there appears to be no rhyme or reason to "stud" placement in an RV - certainly no pre set, adhered to spacing. You might just do a little searching on the internet; there are several videos/pictures from different manufacturers that show the framework of the walls....they generally appear to be a hodgepodge of thrown together metal/wood bars/planks.

You can download the 2013 Passport brochure here: https://www.keystonerv.com/media/2367/passport-2013.pdf Take a look at page 8. You'll see a drawing of a "typical Passport construction" Notice that the studs are placed by "engineering requirements" and are not even close to a "repetitive spacing". Houses are built using "on center" stud spacing. Travel trailers are built on "engineering requirements" that place components where they need to be for strength but also where they need to be for structural integrity, weight and CG balance, and to accommodate components. Things like windows may call for a stud on each side (to frame the window opening) but on the other wall, only one stud may be "engineered into the wall" to support a window...

There's no "rhyme or reason" to stud placement when using "house building standards"....

We had several items we wanted to attach securely to studs. Used a standard stud finder to locate them. Confirmed the location with the 1/32 drill bit before relying on the finding completely.

6" deep???? As in wall thickness? There is no such thing in an RV or am I misunderstanding?

There's not a RV in existence that has a wall more than 2" thick.
Maybe you could put it through an exterior wall then build around it on the outside!!!

I am guessing he means the cabinet is 6" deep and he would like to recess it as far as possible. I am guessing this is a home made cabinet since you are looking to have it the same width as the stud spacing.

I agree on what have been said, what I did is I email the CS and they sent me a diagram on where all of the studs at but of course I will still use a stud finder.

Pretty sure he's making a 6" deep spice rack to surface mount....cutting into the wall between the studs is just a crazy idea.

Did you receive this drawing from Keystone? Frankly I'm shocked that they would know and even more that they would share it. If so, great news.

Yes, please share the diagram Keystone sent to you. It will be a tremendous help for other owners in the same situation.

A stud sensor can help. I have one that alerts to water pipes and electric lines.

Be patient and call around until you get the right person at Keystone or take a trip fir factory tours.
While there isn’t an RV building standard, Keystone does use jugs, forms and uniformity when pre-building their walls. Type of layout build depends on models.
But they can tell you what to generally expect in a wall layout.
Seeing it being built and assembled as well as talking to different people there really topped it for me.

In his message signature, he lists a "2019 Jayco Eagle 321RSTS 5th Wheel". Is Jayco a Keystone product (or vice versa)? If not, that might explain why he seems to be able to get what we all can't seem to get.

I recently asked for some basic part number information about my axles on our 2018 Raptor. The "Retail Advisor" at Keystone responded by email after 8 days with the standard "ask your dealer". My response was this standardized response from Keystone should be auto-programmed into their email system - why make the customer wait 8 days for this standard response>

Brad,

Thanks for pointing out that he is dealing with a different manufacturer, Jayco, and his "structural diagram" won't apply to Keystone trailers. I had missed that bit of information and thought, "Wow, Keystone has changed their policy, at least for one customer".... How foolish of me to "hope beyond hope" LOL

That said, possibly, at least his structural diagram could be used as a "sample of what you might find" as all trailers are "somewhat built using the same technology.

Your experience with Keystone's answer to your axle question is "precisely" the kind of answers I've received over the years. Heck, call and ask what material is used on the outside of the trailer (FILON) and the standard answer is, "You'll need to take your trailer to your dealership so they can confirm the type of material used in your trailer."..... So, it doesn't surprise me that they wouldn't even admit that your trailer has axles under it.....

Keystone, the "winner in all categories for customer support and dealership excellence".... Hmmmmmm

Must have been the winner in the "inter office memo" survey they sent out at HQ.

Jayco and Keystone are not related.
Jayco does have factory tours. Keep talking and meeting different people at either company to find the willing person who is proud of their brand and takes the time to help you. Sometimes going higher is best. Some are not trained to tell you or authorized to go into manf details... not that they wouldn't like yo help.
