Suburban SDN2 Cooktop Leaking Valve

One of the valves is leaking. Tested with soapy water. Replace whole cooktop unit? Or can the valves be 're-oringed'? Those 2 phillip head screws holding the valve stem are soft and heads strip too easy...yikes!

To my knowledge you can get the parts. I’ll check when the parts guys show up.

Just looked, exploded view doesn’t show just the O rings but it does show the valve. I would suspect the valve comes with a new O ring.

Any link to the diagram? Maybe I'll head into AAA RV here in Medford to see if they carry it.

The burner valve (2 required) is item #3, 161142.

Good Luck finding the valve. Most that I've seen are sold as the entire manifold. That costs about $125-150, almost the same price as a new cooktop.

That's what I was afraid of... I'm a fair hand with tools---recon if I'm going to replace the whole cooktop unit---I could try a take-a-part,..and see if I could reseal if with some type of packing, or more likely a new o-ring.

I'd say, "GO FOR IT"... If you're going to need to buy a replacement, then might as well take the old one apart to see if you can fix it before spending the money. All you've got to lose is an hour or so of your time.

O-rings in most items are standard pack items, so if you've got the Harbor Freight O-ring kit, you probably already have the replacement O-rings. Only a Saturday morning and a little "workshop time" till tell you whether you get to save the bucks or spend them.... Good Luck !!!

I wonder if you need any particular type of O ring? By that I mean a Viton or HBNR or something else.

Factory overtightened phillip head screw on valve stem body. Pressing down hard with a new screw driver, the soft screw head deformed and would NOT loosen. I suppose I could drill it out....and take the good screw which came out fine and head to the hardware store. Use vise grips on the remaining bit of screw left, to work it out. All it would have taken was a hex head screw, but they don't really want you to fiddle, or take these apart
