Roof Cleaning

Hey Guys, what’s your go to cleaner for your roof? We have a 2017 Laredo 5er and I can not keep this roof clean for anything. Bought a new cleaner off amazon (B.E.S.T roof cleaner/protectant) and tried it this morning. I’ve attached before and after(the after has the brush in pic) and I can’t see much difference. I know it got some of the crap off but i think it should look a lot better. I’ve used simple green in the past and another roof cleaner

I’ve used a couple different products but have not had much luck. I saw someone mentioned soft scrub. I’m going to try it on the roof when the weather improves.

As long as the caulking is good and there are no tears or leaks in the roofing material, a little off white color does nothing for your rig. If you start using abrasives, including Soft Scrub, which is still an abrasive cleaner, you will start removing the white portion of the roofing, and ultimately, you will end up needing a new and very expensive roof. Unless you are above the roof looking down, you really can't see the roof, so why worry about it.

I keep mine on the side of the house, so yes, I can see the roof through the windows of the room over the garage. Still, the ugly discoloration is not worth a big fuss. I used car wash soap last year, when I wash it this spring I’ll try the Dawn. That is, after removing the twigs, cones, and needles that fell over the winter.

Say you clean with Dawn should a person seal or coat it with a protectant afterwards?

This is from Alpha Systems, the folks that make most if not all of the TPO roofs.....

1. Use Dawn or Simple Green with warm water and a medium bristle plastic scrubrush.
2. Do small areas..4'x4' or 5'x5'.
3. Spray off with hose and make sure all soap/water is rinsed from sidewalls also.
4. Check all roof openings/seams for gaps.
5. For sealing, use Alpha 1010 Non sag sealant..or...1021 Self Leveling sealant.

Be careful using car wash soap if it has any wax in it. Car wash soap with wax has petroleum products which will cause your roof to fail. I use Meguiars ultimate wash and wax on the sides and dawn on the roof.

Keep foremost in mind one of the tips from xrated: what you are using is washing down the sides of your RV. Stick with Dawn. And the resale on a unit with a clean roof is not higher than a discolored. Nobody knows, nobody cares.

For TPO roof membranes:

Personally, I use Murphy's Oil Soap.

Wet & Forget in the spring, and fall if I remember. Plenty clean enough for me.
Dawn will wash the wax off the sides.
