Propane tanks.

Can anyone tell me the empty weight of a 30 lb propane tank. My local supplier charges for a full tank, regardless of what’s still in it. Thanks

The empty weight varies slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer. The tare, or empty, weight should be stamped on the collar of the tank.

Tare weight (empty) of each cylinder is stamped into the neck of the tank along with net (Full) weight. There is also a % not filled for a safety factor. Still confused?? Welcome to the club . I try to find a supplier that charges by the gallon. I wouldn't fill my truck at a station that charged me for 35 gallons of diesel and I was just topping it off.

Thanks for the feedback. We do have a Tractor Supply store that I’ve never used. I’ll check and see if maybe they charge by the gallon.

They do. That's where I always fill my tanks.

I believe you have a 2010 Montana???

If so, your propane tanks may be nearing their "certified lifespan". Propane tanks must be inspected and recertified if expired. Most tanks are initially certified for 12 years, then when recertified, that only adds 5 years to the time.

Most people with 20 pound tanks elect to trade their expired tanks in at a "blue diamond" propane exchange and let them deal with the recertification rather than endure the hassle of recertifying old, rusty tanks....

On 30 pound RV tanks, it's a matter of choice whether you recertify or replace. Usually they run about $60 for a replacement.

I only make these comments because if you go to Tractor Supply with an "expired tank" they will not refill it for you. (but they do give it back so you can deal with it, empty tank and all).....
