Check your springs, shackles and bolts

We own a 2009 Raptor BP299. On a recent trip while returning home we passed through a construction area, hit a bad bump and broke a spring. Fortunately we were only a few miles from home and we were able to make it. While taking it apart I noticed that the shackle bolts do not have zerk grease fittings and that they were starting to wear. I also noticed the holes in the shackle plates were starting to wear and becoming oval. This is the first unit we have ever had this problem with. We bought this unit used and have only put about 6k miles on it. I ordered new springs, shackles and bolts with zerk fittings from KMT trailer parts in Canastota, NY. These people are great and I received the parts in 4 days. Please take time to check your suspension parts to avoid problems on your next trip.

Thanks all,

Mike

Thanks for this timely reminder and advice. I have a suspension and tire checkup on my "to do" list but keep putting it off. A nudge or smack on the head (or both) are just what I needed.
