What do you think about this repair?

I had some major damage done to my Bullet preimier last fall. About 6300.00 worth. A piece of metal came off a truck on the highway. I missed it with the truck but it took out 2 tires holes in the floor holes in the slide fender skirts. Really not pretty

Well I take it to a place and they repaired it and I never really looked at the underside where the skirts attach until I have this bracket flapping in the wind. I would think the metal should run all the wat down the skirt and the bracket of material that would actually hold

Trying to get a few opinions

Believe it or not, even from the factory, this is about all you'll see in terms of fender/skirt support bracing. My Bullet had strapping like that break after the first season. I just fabricated new ones (more of them too) and its held up for the last couple of seasons.

Others on here have done more than that with their fenders and fitted backing plates against the skirting and such. Do a search for "skirting" and "fenders".

Here's one I found. He did an extensive job. Looked great.

Like BusterBrown said, the bracing from the factory is poor (or POS). I think they use what ever scraps of metal they have laying around, and not much of it.

I had trouble with my fender flair flapping in the wind. I had to tighten the screws every trip. They are sheet metal screws, so they stripped. I fixed it by putting speed nuts on the back of the stripped screws, and fabricating a steel ‘T bracket’ to support the center of the fender flair (in the same place as the one in your picture). Almost any thing you do will help.

my skirt ( if you want to call it that) came unattached in the wind as well. Put it back on with self drill/tap screw and very large washers and twice as many screws as was there originally on both sides of the unit ... so far so good

That bracket is beefier than factory.

Yep, 1000% beefier. The thin metal strapping on mine was a joke. Replaced about 10 of then with off the shelf aluminum flat metal strapping.

This, to me, is the way to go. My supports were some kind of left over thin metal somethings. Go to the aluminum strapping, contour it to fit, drill the holes and attach it....voila....the skirts/fenders aren't trying to fly off to mate with flora and fauna!!

Thanks everyone. I noticed it was flapping and got a better look when I had a wheel bearing decide it wasn’t going to work anymore. I guess a trip to Lowe’s for some better bracing is in order.

Ordering a new electric brake module and shoes. Oh the fun lol

Thanks again everyone

It's just a few $$ more to buy new brake backing plate assemblies than to just buy the shoes & other parts to rebuild them & a lot less work & mess.
