valance over slide out removal
It looks like I am going to attempt a field repair of our cable slide out. It does not extend out all the way at the bottom. I've looked at a few You Tube videos and I think I can make the adjustment. My issue is how does the valance over the slide out come off? Anyone know ?? It is wood trim and paneling. Appears to be nailed in place. I dont want to bugger it up. I only have a limited set of tools and internet connection. Any help / direction would be greatly appreciated !!
Thanks !!

Hopefully you don’t need to remove anything other than the center cover which is in front of the motor. That’s just held on with a couple of screws.

If your going to adjust the cables, you only need to remove the top facia if there isn’t room to lay on the top of the slide or reach them with the slide about 3/4 extended.
The “top layer” is brad nailed, and the board underneath is screwed into the frame of the slide. The center trim fills the gap and is usually brad nailed, so remember to mark where the top layers end.
The board across the top should be a single piece, and it may take two people to remove it. I have had very limited success just removing the center section if I can’t reach over the trim with a ladder.

You responded to a post from last June. In any case, my trim was stapled on. Staple holes were filled with some wood putty or similar.

Better late than never!
Thank you for your reply. I never did get around to taking off that valance. Life got in the way, and I just lived with the slide not extending all the way out. That repair is one of the repairs I'll do this spring. Honestly, I did not have the desire to risk it not going back on easily or get damaged and I did not have the place and sufficient time to figure it out. Last week I spent a little time at the trailer, and I saw what you are saying about the finish nails/staples. So, I'll attempt to take it off and make the cable slide adjustment once it gets a bit warmer. Maybe I'll even take a few pics of the process.
I should add that from my initial evaluation, the entire valance needs to be removed to get at both sets of adjustments.

Top “layer” is brad nailed in place. Bottom layer is screwed in using roberts head #2 screws. Make sure you mark which side and any gaps.

Me 1 Valance 0
Today I was able to get over to the trailer and investigate the valance. I was able to get it off with a small fight and minimal swear words.
First, I removed both end caps. They were held in place with wire finish nails. Most likely the type from an air-nail gun. The installers placed nails on the sides and fronts, so they did not pry off easily and both sustained minor damage. I'll need some glue, wood putty and paint to fix them.
The wood panels on the front of the valance were held in place by some sort of lightweight glue (possibly hot glue) and the panels came right off.
The two backer panels were held in place by about 5-6 rather stout 1.5 inch staples each. These things were a pain in the cheeks to get out. I used multiple different tools to remove them. The valance backer was damaged, but it does not really matter since it will be covered back up by the wood panels.
It was a one-man job and it took me about an hour.
So, the hard (let's hope) part is done. Now on to the adjusting. That's a next week thing. I can't open the slide where the trailer sits so I'll need a better day and time.
When I put it back on, I'll use screws in the backer so that when I need to do this again it will be much easier and faster.
End caps will be nailed only on the side or front but not both.
If I remember, I'll take a photo when all done !!!
