Weight distribution hitch

I am looking for a hitch for my 2019 bullet 287qbs. I’d like it to have a sway control as well as weight distribution. I would like to hear your opinion on your hitch pros/cons if you’d buy it again and which ones I should be looking at. Thanks

Hands down equalizer E4. Haven’t had a single complaint from customers.

I bought an Equal-i-zer with the 4-point sway control. My camper is a little shorter than yours.

It's the only WD hitch I've ever owned, so I can't compare it to anything else. I don't have any significant complaints other than you have to watch the grease.

Set-up seemed to be simple enough based on the instructions that came with it. You need a measuring tape and a healthy functioning brain. A healthy dose of caution is advised as well.

I pulled from Kentucky to Colorado and back last summer after a couple of shorter test runs and have had no reasons to wish I'd bought something else.

I liked some of the looks about the Andersen, but just couldn't commit to the way it seemed to operate.

Equalizer! I have pulled with one for 18 years! I wouldn’t even consider any others. I have pulled in winds up to 40 mph and in the mountains. It is flawless. Sadly, I am sure they are no longer $325 as they were in 2004.

I think you'll find the Equalizer 4 point is by far the favorite option. I've owned one (still in the barn) and have zero complaints about it. It functions much better than most other brands unless you want to spend 2k on a ProPride or Hensley and then the gain you get is that they will help cover an overloaded situation better.

Any hitch that uses the little attachable friction plate arms that connect to a ball do not do an acceptable job mitigating sway in my experience. The Andersen appears to be simple but they also use poly components that are going to wear/split/break over time. The grease issue with the Equalizer is there since it requires a tiny bit of grease at the friction points but once you know it it's easy to avoid getting "dirty".

I am using the Andersen on my third travel trailer, a 26RBS. Across the three campers we’ve put over 7,000 miles so far, and it’s has performed flawlessly.

No sway, no noise, no grease, excellent weight distribution, lightweight, and easy to use. In my book, it’s the perfect hitch for us.

We use an Eaz-Lift Trekker, which is a similar 4 point weight distribution sway control hitch like the Equalizer E4. No complaints at all.

In my opinion, a good hitch set-up isn’t something I would cut corners on. Especially if you are towing with a half-ton truck, (or a Toyota Tundra)

I used a Reese standard weight distribution system that had the bars with the chains and the flip up brackets that attached to the trailer A-Frame with a stand alone friction sway bar. I used this on 3 trailers, but the last trailer was just a bit heavy and had to change. Just an FYI, it worked great and I never had issues.

Then I switched the last camper, An Outback 35.5 feet long and got the Equal-i-zer 4 point weight distribution hitch with built in sway control. Once I got accustom to using this hitch system, opposed to the Reese, it was so simple and easy to hitch up and unhitch. It worked better than expected. The secret is to jack the trailer and tow vehicle up high enough so the bars easily rest on the L brackets, then lower the tongue jack. Unhitching do it the opposite way. I never, ever had to use the cheater bar.

If I were to get another travel trailer, I would hands down get another Equal-i-zer 4 point. Just an FYI, because I got a fifth wheel, I ended up giving the hitch system to a friend who purchased his first travel trailer. He got one heck of a good hitch system for free!

I would go for the Equalizer E4. Been using it on my 2020 Bullet 291RLS. Had it on my 2019 Bullet 369RLS and 2023 Passport 2920BH. Only other I would consider is the Hensley or Propride but they are considerably more money.

wd hitch

Not a replay but a question. When getting a wd what weight do you use. The hitch the dealer said i need a 10,000 lb hitch because the max weight of the trailer, Keystone Springdale Summerland, is 7500 lbs. When looking up wd hitch it talks about hitch weight which on do you use. Why did the dealer tell me about the wd hitch

WD hitches have 2 ratings: tongue weight and trailer GVWR. You want to meet both requirements for optimal performance. Have a cushion is a good thing, so I would suspect that’s why he said 10,000/1,000.

Equalizer had a good write up and calculator for this. You have to look at the loaded tongue weight of your trailer and the weight of what you plan to haul behind the rear axle, etc.

I would trust the more experienced opinion of the others about the 4 point type hitch. But just as another option, I upgraded to a blue ox hitch and I have loved it. Have travelled from Virginia to Idaho and Montana, and then back to Montana a couple other times and I have had no trouble whatsoever. No sway issues, and only notice the wind when it gets up over 30-35 mph. If you do choose to go with a Blue Ox, go ahead and get a breaker bar tool and socket to replace the provided wrench. Makes the hook up almost effortless.
Happy trails.

I use the Blue Ox system with Lippert's Straptek setup. Super easy and works awesome on my 298RE.

Most of the replies are from owners of 3/4 and one ton diesels trucks so of course they are better off when it comes to sway and won't notice the sway like a 1/2 ton. It looks like you have a 1/2 ton like me and I went to the extreme and bought a Pro Pride hitch. I live near Omaha and bought my trailer in Helena towed it back in January. I had very heavy crosswinds, big gusts, mountain valley winds, boxed in by semi's and never once felt sway of any kind and didn't have a single white knuckle event!
They are ridiculous in price but now that I spent it I wont ever have to worry about it anymore.
