Antenna recall

Hello everyone,

I have a 2020 Cougar 22RBS. My TV antenna broke off a couple of weekends ago. It's the Furrion "wing" type. I found out after it happened, that there's a recall on them. It's recall number is, I believe, 20-381. Keystone will pay for a new Winegard antenna to be installed. I live out in the sticks and with the price of fuel and sitting waiting for it to be fixed, I just figured to bite the bullet and replace it myself. I found the instructions that Keystone supplies to the installer. They had several things that didn't seem to apply, like the FM antenna being just a wire coiled up under the dome. Mine had a type of coil inside with a coax connector. The instructions also say you need a male to female coax adapter, which I also didn't need.

It wound up being a bad trip, as my furnace quit working also. That ended up the sail switch that I tweaked a little bit more toward the fan blades, then reinstalled the furnace back under the refrigerator. On top of that, my toilet supply line leaked.

I wasn't too happy about all this, but none of it was too bad to fix. I'm not looking to complain, just thought I'd mention the recall in case others didn't know about it.

I've gotten a lot of good information on this forum, and enjoyed much of the discussions.

Interesting. I thought this recall applied to certain 5th wheel trailers. Have they extended it to TT's? This hasn't happened to me but curious what you find out when you contact them. Please keep us posted.

The recall that I saw did list mostly fifth wheels. But when I called Keystone, they said they would cover mine. I called the closest CW, but they wouldn't call me back. I found a place about 80 miles from my home, but they couldn't schedule me for at least a month. So, rather than wait, I just did it myself. Ironically, the day the antenna arrived, CW did call and say that Keystone wanted my VIN number before they would send the parts.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to call Keystone on Monday to see if they will help me out with the cost of the antenna. I figured that they wouldn't want to condone my getting on the roof of my trailer and possibly suing them if I fell off or something.

Here is where I found the recall:

https://www.rvnews.com/nhtsa-issues-...r-jayco-units/

And here are the instructions that Keystone has for the installer:

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/202...0V398-4303.pdf

Like I said, the instructions weren't totally correct for my situation.

I have the wing type Furrion antenna on my Passport. I guess they are not included in the recall just yet.

Mine wasn't listed either. So it might be worth a call for you.

Short version of the recall

Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Keystone Carbon, Cougar, Fuzion, Impact and Raptor fifth-wheel trailers equipped with a Furrion over the air (OTA) wing-style television antenna. The antenna may separate from the mounting base during transit, becoming a road hazard.

The latest update:

I just received an email from Keystone. After several emails, phone calls, and a picture sent to them, they said that they will pay for the parts to replace the antenna. The lady said they cut checks twice a week. And I will be reimbursed for the antenna and butyl tape. So hopefully, I'm just out my time and labor. But I'll be more than pleased with the outcome.

Thanks Keystone!

I have contacted keystone about the antenna when dealing with another issue. I was informed the anis what was re called because the way it is made with the wings. While going down the road it can be blown off. I suggest you call keystone if you have the furrion antenna and more then likely they will replace it. A suggestion if you have it replaced go with the winegard 360+ even if you have to pay the difference in the 360+ and the 360 replacement. Reason is with the 360+ you can later add a router for internet and wi fi if wanted.
