Mine was to vent the tank on my RVs & to vent the sinks in my manufactured home............ I don't know what yours do!!!!
To the OP if you don't have a roof vent for your sinks then it vents with AAV, it's that simple.
I'm done with this thread!
With all due respect, an Air Admittance Valve is a One-way valve to allow air to be sucked INTO the plumbing system (air admittance) as water goes down the drain. It is in no way, shape or form a vent.

^^^

I thought the discussion regarding the AAVs expelling air was not correct, but I'm not a plumber and and I looked it up; of course Bulldog posted the answer beforehand! Here is what I found on the web to the question "how does an air admittance valve work?"

Code:
Air admittance valves (AAVs) work with a sealing mechanism that is lifted to let air into the drain system when there is negative pressure. Positive pressure causes the mechanism to close so that gases cannot escape into the home. These are approved in many areas although they are not as good as conventional venting.
I'm not sure I agree with the last sentence; we've had ours since ~2003 and there have yet to be leaves fall into it (unlike the true vents) to cause the it to clog and backup the sink.

For the sake of discussion, here is a description from the manufacturer of the product I bought. Note, it is called both an AAV as well as a vent:

STUDOR, INC is the distributor of the STUDOR brand of Air Admittance Valves (AAVs) for the plumbing industry in the USA, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. The STUDOR AAV can be used in lieu of expensive and complex plumbing (open pipe) vent systems that penetrate roofs of buildings. The unique design of the STUDOR MINI-VENT provides plumbing ventilation to prevent the loss of water seals in traps without the need for costly roof penetration and vent piping.

Agreed. It just prevents a vacuum caused by water being pulled down hill. Example, it prevents water from being siphoned out of the trap. So think about it, if the tank was half full during cool night temperatures and the air above the liquid in the tank heats during the day, there would have to be a way to relieve the pressure! The AAV would not get this done.

I am not 100% sure, but I would bet that the only tank with a gas off vent would be the black tank.

Yes it is....but something’s not passing the smell test....obvious pun intended.

What about my last post where the manufacturer describes what I installed as a vent (to mitigate the need breach the roof) as well as acting as an AAV? I’m wondering how that can be explained. Are the manufacturer notes wrong?
