Outside trailer inspection findings

Took an inspection walk around the trailer last weekend, checking sealent/caulking around the windows, up on the roof (ladder) to look at lap sealant and to see if anything is weird looking. Looks good and still pretty clean after the winter weather. Checked torque on the lugs, tires, good. The thing i found weird was the bottom screws holding the aluminum siding on were all loose. A few had half of the screw out, but almost every one had at least 3-4 turns to re tighten...guess i will put them on the check list also..

As you do your checks, carry a tube of clear silicone with you. When you find a loose screw in the siding, unscrew it, put a dab of silicone in the hole, reinstall the screw. It'll stay put for the duration. Just tightening them will often produce "empty screwholes" at the next inspection. Where it fell out, whose tire it's in, well those are questions hopefully to be answered by someone in a land far, far away......

John, will have to try that the next time, just went around checking and tightening/replacing those screws. I have been replacing those lost with slightly larger ones and tightening them. Will try you technique next time, even though I have enough material to go up a few screw sizes.

ADDED: larger screws on those attaching to those flimsy brackets

Remember that continually using larger screws just masks the problem. Eventually you will be at the point that you run out of material to put that lag screw in

Its a habit, when I was gaining weight and concerned about pants sizes, then went to the store and found out I was in good shape plenty sizes to go

I did a little different twist (pardon the pun). After tightening the screws, I reached around the back and placed a blob of silicone directly to the threads.
