Fixable?
I'm preparing for a trip and noticed one of my precious Maxxis is losing air slowly - about 15 psi in a week. I removed it and found a nail protruding from the edge of the tread area. Not really in the side wall. Fixable, right? Taking it back to Discount Tire tomorrow.

According to the Rubber Manufacturer's Association (RMA) any puncture "outside the tread area" is not repairable. Just using the "verbage" one would consider your tire as "repairable"....
But, when looking at the diagrams and photos on their webpage, the location of your nail is listed as "not repairable" and the recommendation is to replace the tire.

Unfortunately too close to the sidewall to be repairable. Too much flexing in that area for a repair to even be safe if someone were to attempt it.

Well, fortunately there is a warranty. But too late for this trip to get another matching tire. Will have to settle for a Carlisle. [emoji587]

Save the damaged tire, and when you are done with your trip, use the Carlisle to replace your spare, and get a new Maxxis to replace the one on the wheel with the damage. You are getting close to ageing out your spare anyway. Better to have a good spare as well as good rubber on the road, than having an old spare that may not get you safely to the tire shop, when the need arises.

Good advice here. Thats a very doable thing on the spare versus the new tire on the rim..
