Has anyone replaced a baggage door

Hello,

I made a rookie mistake the other day and pulled my fifth wheel back to the storage lot with the tailgate of my truck down. That was a bad thing because when I made sharp turns or turned corners the tailgate rubbed a nice crease in the compartment door for the generator.

So I just received a replacement door from Lippert. It looks like these doors are screwed into the frame but I was wondering what kind of caulk or sealant to use? Also around the inside edge of the door there is a clean finish of sealant that goes all around the door frame. Would I use the same sealant for that?

If anyone has experience replacing these doors I could sure use some advice!

Thanks very much,
Doug

Did you look at the hinge to see if the door can be removed from the frame? Not sure about yours, but I think on mine (TT), I can lift the door and then slide the hinge out of the frame hinge.

Agree. If the door is a lift-up, he should be able to remove a single screw and slide the door out of the hinge.

Thanks but no such luck. Seems like it would work that way though just by looking at the hinge...
Thanks again

Butyl tape is used on the door flange. Often times the way the doors are constructed, you end up having to replace the entire assembly.

Thanks Chuckster. That's what I bought from Lippert (the whole door with frame). I'll get some butyl to seal the door.

Any idea what keystone uses to finish the inside of the door frame seal?

Thanks for all the responses guys....

I don't remember off hand, not currently working at a Keystone dealer. Some use trim wood called batten trim. I've seen silicone and more often than not, nothing.
