Axle

Has anyone heard of an axle going pos. camber ?

My thoughts would be that a neg. camber can happen, as all the weight would be in the center of the unit causing the axles to sag, or go neg. and wear tires on the inside.

I have one tire wearing out on the outside - indicating pos. camber on one side only. (NOT a to-in problem)

Other than a defective axle from the factory has anyone had that happen ?

Just out of curiosity, have you replaced the axle with a heavier axle or is it possible that there isn't much/enough weight on that corner? I've never had a positive camber "problem", but I have seen trailers with too heavy of an axle wear tires on the outside because the weight isn't enough to bring the axle into alignment. I don't call that a camber problem, I call that an axle working as designed.

Thanks bsmitho4o4 _ I purchased this unit in December 2014. I thought that there was more outside shoulder wear than should be. I mentioned it to the dealer (whom I have faith in) - during the next 3 months in traveling from Vancouver Island to Calif, Ariz. and back I noticed more wear - caused me to check at every stop.

On return I took unit in. They say "axle has LOST camber" - "you should replace the pins & bushings AND the axle"

OK I want a reliable unit HOWEVER I am now in conversation reguarding warranty.

AGREED - 90 day warranty with used unit, BUT 90 days I was in Calif., Arz.
and could not get back.

I also purchased a 3 yr extended warranty.

I will see how this plays out - AND, I am NOT dissing the dealer.

My thoughts - ( from my alignment years ) makes me wonder, on a solid axle , how it could go pos. UNLESS it was defective form the get go.

Doesn't make much sense to me. As I mentioned before, since you bought it used, I'd check to see if someone replaced the axle and decided to "upgrade" and went to heavy. You could also call around to a few axle shops and get second opinions....I'm not an axle expert.

We had a similar situation with one of the original GY Marathons; most of the tread wore off while the other three looked good. The tire was separating and the tread was probably squirming against the pavement. The tires had over 20,000 miles so replaced all. A set of tires isn't cheap but probably cheaper than a new axle.

As I said - I have a real good dealer.

They are putting everything thru warranty.

Greg's RV Sales, Duncan, BC.
