Texas State Parks, New Garner

We would like to stay in the area of Leakey, Texas to ride the "three sisters" and surrounding area for about three days in the middle of September. Does anyone have any recommendations or has anyone stayed at New Garner State Park? We have stayed in San Antonio/Austin area many, many times over the years and would prefer to stay where we are riding.

Jim & Brenda,

The Leakey/Concan area is a great place to explore, and should be really nice in mid-Sept. We haven't stayed at Garner in several years - it's a very popular family c/g during warm weather & sometimes difficult to get a site. If you need another option... directly across the river from (& on the bluff above) Garner S.P. is a commercial RV Park: Parkview Riverside RV
http://www.parkviewriversiderv.com/ Also "off the beaten path", with TACO & Good Sam discounts (PA-AM?), mature trees, river sites... and the "Frio" River is appropriately named Brrrr!

Although some TX State Parks are still closed/restricted after the flooding, apparently no issues at Garner. http://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/pa...k-alert-status

Enjoy & travel safely!

Do a search for Koyote Ranch - it has a different name now (bought out by some corporate organization). It is a beautiful place - perfect location for the three sisters and day trips to Fredericksburg, Lukenbach and Kerrville. We have not been there since new ownership.

Have also seen recommendations for Antler Oaks in Banderra.

We have also stayed at Fredericksburg RV Park - very clean (including bathrooms), great spaces and good rates. Also on the edge of town so it is very easy to get groceries, items left at home, shopping and sightseeing.

In addition to the Three Sisters you have to go to Lukenbach for live music and a cold beer (available during the day) , riding the Willow City Loop is an absolute must.

Garner is one of my absolute favorite TX parks. Especially if you enjoy swimming in a cool clear river. The downside of being an excellent park is that it gets busy, sometimes substantially busy... Expect to make reservations well in advance. If you they are full, lots of other places available on and off the Frio river.

Many thanks to all. I am going to get them on the phone tomorrow and reserve what I can. I'll get Brenda to get in the river and then report on how the temperature is. She can bring me a cold beer in the hot tub when she brings the news......(No, I don't always let her read what I post on here. I'm too old to find another as good as she is!!)
