40' length restriction common?

I'm pretty dead set on the Fuzion 390, and after looking at one of the campgrounds that I've been going to on a regular basis, I noticed they have a maximum length of 40'. I never had a reason to be concerned about that in the past as my previous TH was only 30', but as I look at the Fuzion 390 or 404, those are big rigs.

Is this common for a lot of camp grounds not to allow 40' or longer?

I haven't stayed at a huge number of campgrounds, but of those that I have, our trailer (total length 35'10") has barely fit in a large percentage of them, with some of them not having anywhere nearby to park the tow vehicle.

One of the worst, in regards to nowhere to park your tow vehicle, is the brand new RV park in Tulsa, adjacent to the fairgrounds. And, the spaces are so narrow that if you and your neighbor both have slideouts, you end up virtually on top of one another. Huge fire code violation. They also have a sidewalk ramp on the west side of the office that is dangerously steep for a person who's walking, even more so for someone in a wheelchair or with a baby stroller. Whoever designed that park (along with whoever approved the designs) needs a good lashing.

I wouldn't say it is common, but you do have to keep it in mind and check around. Some campgrounds can accommodate these longer RVs, but are limited on the number of sites available for them. Many places you will pay extra for a premium site. When we bought our Alpine I didn't think much about it, it was ONLY 4.5' longer than our Jayco. 4.5' makes a big difference. Best thing is plan ahead, call and make your reservations early. Waiting until the last minute can make finding a spot more difficult than with the smaller units.

Length limits are common in National Parks and some state and blm parks. You should check the parks you normally go to. Our trailer is only 35', but that did limit some of the parks.

I just looked at several other camp grounds that I would like to visit, and yes there was a "premium site" to accommodate the larger rigs at about $7.00 more a night.

I'm just thinking if maybe I should look at the Fuzion 371 some more since its 38'11" rather than the 390 at 42'. I just really like the 390 layout with the Chrome package.

Agreed that I will definitely spend more time trip planning now

If you're anything like me, if you settle for less than what you really want, you'll continue to eye the other one and eventually it'll end up sitting in the driveway. I'm not that loyal to campgrounds, I've found plenty that can accommodate us and the premium sites are a bit nicer anyway so I don't mind paying for them. Of course I did pay for a premium site in one location that was so small I couldn't put the awning out! I've found the 4 slides more of an issue than the 40' with some parks. Many places have trees that smaller units with fewer slides can position around, I don't always have that option.

Yes, a lot of campgrounds cannot easily accommodate longer RV's some of this stems from them being older and from a time where 30 foot was a LOOOOOONG trailer to a simple matter of economics... shorter spaces equal more spaces.... more spaces filled equal more revenue.

Get the trailer you want and plan around it, there are a lot of campgrounds that can handle the larger rigs.

Get what you want and adjust your camping. At 35 feet there are a few we cannot go to and there are a few others that we don't because the roads and turns are too tight. There are campgrounds out there that have 70-80 foot pull throughs. Good luck.

Since upgrading from the TT to the 5er, we also have found it harder to accommodate the 3 slides then the 35 foot length. We have also found the 50amp sites are usually a bit bigger then the 30amp, but not always.

Thanks for the input, I agree too that if I don't get exactly what I want, in a few months id be mad at myself and end up losing money on the trade in, lol

I agree with Javi, here the campgrounds (public) where made years ago, roads to many are not made to pull 40 ft 5ers. Modern roads have 12 ft lanes, many of those to campgrounds are 10ft lanes, if your lucky the tree limbs are 14 ft above the road. RV parks (private) are newer/better and made to have the biggest RVs.

Only had one problem with my big rig. I made a reservation that clearly stated a 5er of 41ft. When I arrived, I was told that the max length they could accommodate was 35ft. When shown a copy of the reservation all I got was "sorry, someone screwed up". Kicker was we I asked for a refund of my deposit, I was told that the cancellation policy was 48 prior to arrival date. Had to go thru credit card company to get charge removed.

We have found that to be common with our state, federal, and bml camps. We camped several weeks ago in a federal campground that stated on the website our 27' trailer would fit. We hardly fit in and had to unhitch and park the truck sideways in front of the trailer. The camp host told us it was common as many of these parks are old and trailers were much smaller in the "olden" days.

hmmmm, we screwed up, but we are going to keep your money....yeah, sounds like a great place. Almost makes you wonder if they "screwed up" on purpose and how many times they have done it.

If in Illinois and Missouri check out the Corp of Engineers campgrounds (Federal), a lot of their sights are 60' - 90' Long and with full hook-ups; we have always been successful with finding great spots with our combined outfit of 57'. We use Recreation.gov and ReserveAmerica.com about 99% of the time for searches.

The one thing campgrounds don't seem top care about is their trees. Several places we tried to get into but the trees were crazy low
