washing bedspreads

We have a king bed and a queen bed with bedspreads that I want to wash before closing up the trailer for the winter and now I see that they have tags inside that say dry clean only. I don't want to ruin them but I don't see why they have to be dry cleaned. Has anyone just thrown them in the washing machine and dryer?
thanks,
parkgirl

parkgirl,
they clump up.
the batting gets clumpy inside the main bedspread material.
we have washed the one in our old camper and it did that. we haven't washed the new one. we take it off the bed to use the bed and I just vacuumed it last week to remove the dust..
NOW that whatroour trip and defrost the fridge.

Oh, thanks everybody. I thought this was maybe a stupid question but now I'm glad I asked. I'll get them dry cleaned.

We washed and dryer ours. Faded big time after the DW noticed these are supposed to be dry cleaned! To late for ours. But I would dry clean them next time for sure.
