Slide out question...is this normal?

I searched but either I didn't search right or...

On our 08 Montana 5vr the slides (4 slides) sometimes pause when you are putting them in. I don't remember it doing this when we first got it, but here lately more and more. You have to get off the button wait a second or two and then press again and it will go in. This morning I had to do it on two of the slides.

Like I said, I don't remember this doing it before. One time it did this with me when it was hooked up to the truck with the truck not running when ready to pull and this morning it did it when it was plugged into the side of my house on the 30 amp plugin.

Wondering minds.....

I think your Monty has hydraulic slides. If so you may be low on fluid or have air in the system. Hope this helps, Hank ....... Your manual should give advise under "Trouble shooting".

Early Montanas used either a 40 or 50 amp self resetting circuit breaker in-line with the hydraulic pump motor. Under load that pump can draw upwards of 80 amps, especially if the temps are cool or your batteries are getting a little weaker. The official fix from Keystone/Montana was to add a second breaker in parallel with the original. We started to have the same problem with our 2010 Montana with only 2 slides. Added the second breaker and no problem after. If you go over and sign-up on the MOC at http://www.montanaowners.com/
you can probably get someone to post the pics of the mod to their Montana (did take a pics when I did ours).

This is true, in colder weather the hydraulic fluid will not flow through the pump as well putting more stress on the motor to move that cold fluid, creating more amp draw, therefore causing the circuit breaker to trip out then reset. Our new Montana only does this when the fluid is cold, and not in the summer months. The circuit breaker is there to protect the motor from overheating causing a damaged motor etc.

This makes sense, and yes Hank it is a 08 Montana 3500 RL. You know what is funny, that RV came used with every type of manual there is right there in the drawer, except for the slides. I know it has posted on here where to get them from Lippert (?) so I will and stick in the drawer.

I will see if it is better this summer and then I will be kind to it when it is cold. Hank, the fluid level is good....who knows about air in though.

Thanks you all.

HI AZLEE when you check your fluid level please make sure the slides are in. if they are out the fluid will show low ... you fill it then pull them in your front bay will look like the gulf after the BP spill
