City water filling fresh water tank through pump
I've seen a number of threads where people have the city water supply turned on and their fresh water tank is filling up.
My pump started leaking by as well and would fill the 60 gallon fresh water tank in 24 hours or less, so I figured I'd post some pictures of what I did to fix it.
The first thing I checked was the intake screen. I thought perhaps debris from the tank might have gotten into the pump and blocked the check valve. The intake screen was clean as a whistle.
I removed the pump and right away discovered a couple things:
1. there is a red wire connected to a white with blue stripe wire. When I touched it, the wires fell out of the crimp. So that was a problem waiting to happen.
2. the two red wires on the pump have connectors so they can be disconnected and the pump removed for service. However, the black ground wire did not have a connector - it was hard wired to the camper wiring.
So, I removed the eight screws on the front and opened the unit up. I inspected and wiped down all the diaphragms. Nothing seemed amiss, so I then removed the check valve. That's when I found a little piece of something (don't know what, grass perhaps) on the seal.
Removed that, put everything back together and problem solved.

I seem to have spoken too soon. About a day after calling this one a success, it started back filling the water tank again - worse than before. Wondering what I might have done to cause this I pulled the pump again.
It was then I noticed another piece that I had not pulled apart the first time.
When I opened it up I found a spring loaded plunger with a silicone seal that was not seated properly. Examination revealed it had never properly sealed, either. I thought that flipping the sealing disc over might possibly fix the problem, but no joy (though it did reduce the flow back to a drip). I contacted Pentair using the phone number on the pump and they were most helpful. I've emailed them the requested information and should be getting a new seal in a few days. In the meantime I have ordered a Camco brass check valve that I intend to install on the pressure side of the pump so I'll not have this problem in the future.

Interested to follow this thread, since we have the same trailer.
So far mine isn't have this issue, but we have only used a "city water" site twice since we got the trailer.

I recommend you install a check valve on the pressure side of the pump. It's about a five minute job and you'll never have a back fill problem.

This is a photo of a brass sharkbite style check valve I installed years ago in our rig to solve the problem of the water going into the fresh tank due to a failed check valve in the pump.

That would certainly work well with the stronger walled Pex. I've got the softer flex line so went with a check valve that threads in the same way the strainer does on the other side.
For folks with actual Pex lines, the Shark Bites check valve would be the easiest to install, though neither is really difficult.

I hate those pex lines. The crimpers are difficult for these arthritic bodies, so I just replaced my pump for a new one. I was camping at the time and had to spend 4 hours just to go get it. But now that it’s done, maybe I can work on the old pump, although it’s not that old, and keep it as a spare.

I received my check valve today and discovered that it won't work without a bunch of work. What wasn't apparent on Amazon was the direction of flow - which is exactly the opposite of what I need.
Oh well. Better luck next time!
On another note, I did get an email from Pentair this morning (keeping in mind I sent them my part request yesterday) and it sounds like they are sending me an entire new pump - they said the replacement shipped out via UPS today and to scrap the bad pump at my location.
I'm going to go ahead and get a different check valve but continue to operate off the tank until the UPS delivery and see what I get.

Looks like a simple coupling and a nipple will reverse to connections so the flow will be correct.

You are right about that but for the $3.99 it would cost to adapt this one I can just get another with fewer joints.
Apparently the one I bought is intended to be used on the water heater so I’ll save it just in case.

Received a new pump today. The only thing I had to move over from the old one was the strainer.
I'm supposed to scrap the old one but it seems so wasteful to destroy a pump that would be 100% functional with the addition of a check valve. I only asked for a replacement bypass valve and they sent me an entire pump so I don't think it will be too dishonest of me to put the old one on a shelf just in case the new one burns up.

Received the Sharkbite check valve today but I'm pretty sure the water line it needs to go on has too large an outside diameter to fit.
Half inch Pex is really what the Sharkbite is intended for. I'm going to have to measure with calipers to be sure, but just eyeballing it, I'd say the water line is too large.

The shark bite won't work on the braided hose.
The other check would better with a nipple & coupler.

No, it won’t. The wall is too thick. On the bright side the new pump doesn’t leak by so I’m working to prevent a future occurrence rather than trying to fix something that isn’t working.
