Vacation in upper mi

While we are planing out first long trip since we purchased our 5th wheel. Leaving Jacksonville, nc for our trip to upper Michigan. Will be staying at lake shore rv camp ground in st ignace, mi for our base camp. Visiting area around there. Plan to go to mackinaw island, the locks, and whatever else we can take in. Will be there 5 days any suggestions. No hiking.
Also any routes to stay away from or a good route from Nc to upper mi.

Stayed kawadin casino for a week Saint Ignace ele and water . The goal is to visit the 3 Great Lakes . I like Manistique on Lake Michigan with rv parking and free electric hook. This took place last September everything was open. While on Mackinac Island take the Buggie tour stop at the fort museum on the island.

Bob, you and your family are headed to one of the great vacation spots in this country. I expect those from northern Wisconsin and Michigan will all agree. While in the area you will undoubtedly cross the 'Mighty Mac' a number of times. Reference this site with your family to help you understand what a landmark structure this bridge actually is. Even by today's standards this bridge is an engineering marvel.
https://www.mackinacbridge.org/histo...of-the-bridge/
During stormy, windy times large empty trucks and most large motorhomes and RV's will be delayed in crossing. Here's the reason:
"The engineering of the Mackinac Bridge was designed to accommodate the high winds, temperature changes and constant changes of weight. In severe conditions the deck at center span could move up to 35 feet. Under more subtle conditions, the deck could move slowly in one direction based on the force and direction of the winds."
John can send you to other great places to visit, I'm sure.

Plan a day trip to Tahquamenon Falls and Whitefish Point (where the Edmund Fitzgerald freighter sank in 1975). Tahquamenon is a short hike from the parking area and is very accessible.

Also recommend a day-trip to Kitch-iti-kipi (Michigan's largest freshwater spring). It's a really cool spot and there's a cable driven raft that you can take across the spring with viewing ports so you can see all the way to the bottom.

Michigan is in fact, a very beautiful place to vacation... UP is spectacular... Enjoy my friend... word of caution.. Roads leave a bit to be desired in many areas and road work is an ongoing issue... so be prepared to dodge the orange barrels...lol..

One of the significant "good points" about the upper peninsula is that things seldom change rapidly.... That same pothole on US 2 was there "tree yers ago" and "will be der tree yers frum now, eh? "

Rather than "rehash" all the old threads, Here's a few to catch up on the UP, eh???

Beautiful excursion just be sure to pack a heavy jacket. Even in July it gets pretty chilly on the Lake.

If you're going to book a pictured rocks cruise, book the afternoon (NOT THE MORNING) cruise. The boats cruise from west to east so in the morning, the sun is "in your face" and photo taking is hard to do with the sun glaring into the lens and all the colorful rock formations in the shadows. Plus, Lake Superior is ALWAYS COLD, but is especially cold without the sun to warm the boat and the people sitting on the top deck.... The afternoon cruise has the sun "at your back, illuminating the rocks" so photography and just plain sightseeing is much more colorful and the sun is "higher in the sky, so the air temperature is much more comfortable....

Even then, on ANY cruise on Lake Superior, have a heavy coat (not a light nylon windbreaker) to snuggle up in... You'll be glad you have it halfway through the trip.....
