Water Heater

Hi, Just joined the website, just purchased a 2012 320BH water heater only works on gas, the previous owner and I changed the circuit board located on top of the water heater tank, but still no luck running on electric, any help would be greatly appreciated.

What have you checked/ruled out? Is there power to the water heater for the element? Is the DSI switch functioning?

Curious why you replaced the board. Did it test faulty or was it a guess? The most common issue is a burned out heating element if the electric is turned on with no water in the trank. What make/model water heater?

With mine, it plugs into an outlet by the water heater. You can test the ohms of the element across the plug spades if you unplug it from the outlet. It should be something like 10.2 ohms. If it is bad it will show infinite ohms (open circuit). Note also that there was a relay in the outlet box that activated 120 volts from the yellow 12 volt wire from the wall rocker switch.

If you do end up pulling out the element, it is NOT FUN. The Camco 1.5 inch socket did not work on the element. Had to use a small channel-lock wrench instead.

Just ohm out the heating element and verify you have 120 volts AC to element

Camco socket is junk.. just buy a 13/16 deep socket and grind the outside down a bit till it fits properly. Use a breaker bar and it comes right out

Also if there is NO inside switch for 120 volt AC mode…many don’t have switch inside then there’s NO relay mo7nted on side of water heater for 120 volts power to element .. only an outside toggle switch right in the heater

No one has asked the make/model of the water heater. I had to replace the little rocker switch on the heater for the electric to work and the heating element was fried as well. This came from someone leaving the switch on with an empty tank while connected to shore power.
