Securing Generators with Travel Trailers

Hi all. Thinking about getting a 3000-4000 watt inverter generator for our upcoming cross-country trip. I won't put it on the rear bumper since my kayaks are back there, but the question is how to secure the generator. Do people bolt them to their truck beds? Seems like they'd be easy to steal otherwise.

Mine is secured in the truck bed with a Master Lock "snake cable lock" when towing (we have a fifth wheel) and further secured by a tri-fold bed cover when the trailer is not hitched.

The "Master Lock Python style cable lock can also act as a "tightening strap" since when installed, you can tighten it and it won't loosen until you turn the key to unlock it.

i have a huge cable lock that i lock it down with to the bed of the truck(use the hooks in it or the side board holes. In the times its outside the rv, i cable lock it to the frame of the trailer. i guess all you can really do is slow somebody down.

Check the weights on that size generator, they can get a bit hefty.

I use a chain and a lock in the back of the truck.

I have a hard cover on the bed of the truck, so no problems there.

I use this cable lock, to the frame of the trailer, when the generator is out of the bed of the truck.

Always remember to cable/chain around a 'substantial' part of the generator motor itself, not the tubular frame.
