TT Battery

It may be time to replace the single Group 24 battery that came with the TT in 2014 based on the displays on my Xtreme charger. I will get it load checked but the time may have come.

The battery groups I am considering are:

12 Volt Deep Cycle RV & Marine Batteries by BCI Group Number

BCI GROUP NUMBER: 24
DIMENSIONS IN INCHES*: 11.13" 6.60" 9.25" LxWxH
Amp Hours (AH): 80

BCI GROUP NUMBER: 27
DIMENSIONS IN INCHES*: 12.00" 6.63" 9.06" LxWxH
Amp Hours (AH): 90

BCI GROUP NUMBER: 31
DIMENSIONS IN INCHES*: 12.9" 6.75" 9.27" LxWxH
Amp Hours (AH): 125

6 Volt Deep Cycle Batteries by BCI Group Number

CI GROUP NUMBER: GC2
DIMENSIONS IN INCHES*: 10.38" 7.13" 10.88" LxWxH
Amp Hours (AH): 225

I stopped by our local Costco and found the following options:

It is interesting that Costco claims higher AH on their 12V deep cycle batteries than the competitors.

We have never dry camped with our TT, but with electrical sites getting harder to reserve, it would be beneficial to be able to dry camp from a Friday evening to late Sunday afternoon on occasion. So I am considering going to a two battery set up for more AH in the event we need propane heat. (LED bulbs are already installed.)

If I understand correctly, two Costco 6V CG2 batteries in series would provide 208 AH, weigh ~ 120 lb and cost ~$280 CDN. Whereas two Costco 12V Grp 24 deep cycle batteries in parallel would provide 190 AH, weigh ~90 lbs and cost ~$220 CDN.

Any reason not to go the two 12V Grp 24 DC route vs. the two 6V CG2 route?

Has anyone installed two 6V battery boxes on a 2013 to 2015 Passport 23RB? Any clearance issues with the front wall with the extra 1.5 inch of height?

A bank of GC batteries will yield heavier (and deeper) charge and discharge cycles vs your typical 12 volt deep cycle marine battery. You'll have more usable amp hours in this form factor with less risk of shortening the life span. They do sell this type of dual gulf cart battery box that I've read many owners use on the front of their A-frame trailers. As far as if the battery tray on your Passport will accept it without modification, I'm not sure.

This is the route I'm going when my interstate 12 volt battery needs to be replaced.

It comes down to what your planning on doing. If your going to dry camp Amp Hours is important. If you’re camping with hook ups then the cheaper batteries are plenty.

My last 2 motor homes had 2 Trojan 6V batteries - 2 in series. I have 2 - 12V in the fifth wheel - like the extra capacity. As previously state - Amp Hours capacity is what to look for if you do any camping without a constance source of AC.
