Furnace blower operation?

I have a 2016 Passport 2810BHS and the furnace works great when I ave it set on 2 degree difference and blower on auto. Wanted to have the blower on low and just have burner come on and off. When I tried that the AC blower came on blowing cold air everywhere. Didn't wait to see if the heater came on or off. I have an Atwood model AFMD20121 Furnace and a Dometic thermostat. Any ideas or suggestions? Is it possible for my TT to work like my house does? Thanks.

Re: Furnace blower operation?

Try throwing the AC breaker. My son in law had a issue where the AC blower came on in Heat Auto and this cured it. I don't think that the furnace blower will run continuously through like the AC blower will. Might be wrong about that, maybe someone else will chime in.

Re: Furnace blower operation?

The furnace fan is a one speed DC motor. It is not designed to operate continuously (it would deplete the battery in a couple of hours). The "LOW" or "HIGH" setting on the thermostat, the A/C fan to also operate with the furnace when the thermostat calls for heat. The "stated purpose" of this function, according to the manufacturer of the thermostat, is to increase circulation of "heated air" to more evenly provide warmth to the entire coach. (Whether it actually helps or not is something you'll need to determine for your application.)

Unfortunately, the furnace is "loud and intrusive" in most RV's and there's not a lot you can do about it. There is no "HIGH" or "LOW" setting on the furnace fan. Most of us have learned to "endure" or use a small electric heater to help save propane and cut down on noise.

Hope this helps you understand some of the limitations a bit better.

Re: Furnace blower operation?

When in heat mode, with the CCC2 thermostat, the fan control should be set to AUTO, to prevent the A/C fan from coming on. I don't know for sure, but don't believe the compressor comes on.

Furnace blower operation?

I was in a Dometic training course, and John is spot on. Dometic designed the A/C fan to run with the furnace if set to hi or Low to circulate the warm air. No the A/C compressor Does not come on.

Re: Furnace blower operation?

Thanks everyone. It's sounds like mine is working right. The heater is quieter than the AC blower. I guess if I want additional air circulation when the heater is in auto I'll run another fan.

Re: Furnace blower operation?

The fan switch on my thermostat only controls the fan in the ac unit. The heater operates separately and does not have a "fan on" setting.

That's how they all work. You need 110VAC to operate the A/C and/or its fan. Furnace operation only requires 12VDC and propane. If your not plugged into shore power or running a generator, it won't matter what the fan is set to, it won't operate.

Re: Furnace blower operation?

Anyone ever driven down the road with the heater on? I'm thinking with cold weather it might help keep my tanks and lines from freezing in route.

Re: Furnace blower operation?

Some will say don't, but a few years ago, we drove from KC, Missouri to Las Cruces, NM in December with way below freezing temps, and we ran the heater while traveling, and the lines did not freeze. I would not want to chance it without the heater running, short of winterizing the system.
