Now this, THIS is hilarious!! With all the junk going on about covid this made me laugh until tears rolled while trying to repeat it to DW. It's going out to some "special" friends I know that will roll while reading. Thanks!

Last Friday, at 20F with 14" of white stuff on the ground, I was walking behind a snowblower, clearing the drive and the front walk. Bored to tears, trying to stay warm and dry, I began "thinkingly singing" a tune I sang with my kids on many camping trips:

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
He'd chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

Well, it WAS a lot of snow and did take a LOT of time, so I "rewrote the lyrics"...

How much snow could a snowblower blow if a snow blower could blow snow?
It's blow as much snow as a snow blower blows, if a snow blower could blow snow......

Not a lot of "concentration required" to walk behind a "tornado maker"....

Yeah, I know, I know

And to keep it "covid related" We're soon going to get our vaccinations...

When I use the snowblower (not often here) I typically crank up the "over the ear noise cancelling headphones", light a decent long smoking cigar and get lost in watching the snow fly or sometimes with the "wet" icy snow watch it puke out of the chute like a baby spitting up milk.

I've probably told this story before so forgive me if I did (just click on the next post). I'm 66 and we moved into this house 22 yrs ago so I was 44 if my math still works. Moved in in the summer and that winter we had a 9' or 10" wet snow fall. No snow blower, just a shovel. The neighbor across the street and I became friends quickly. He was ex Marine, very athletic, and used to spar with "Sugar Ray". Now this guy used to beg me to go to the gym with him and try boxing.

At that time I had had one cervical spine surgery, two shoulder surgeries, two arm surgeries and a chest surgery (Thoracic outlet release). I went with him a few times (admittedly just to meet Ray) but never worked out. So just framing the conditions, here I am, 44, 6'3" mortally obese at 280 lbs. and my neighbor was the image of a fit man.

Back to the snow. I HATE, maybe despise or LOATHE are better descriptors, to shovel snow. I find it mind numbing and I don't like thoughtless repetitive work. So when the duty comes along I tend to rush, or push through it to get it over with ASAP. That day, we were shoveling our respective driveways and walks. As usual, I'm shoveling like I'm trying to escape a bear on my tail. My neighbor was yelling at me to slow down, take a break and wait for him to come help me. Well I finished first and walked across the street to see if I could help him. He said I looked like a cartoon steam shovel, snow flying and smoke puffing out from my hood.

Less than 4 months later he was dead. Massive heart attack took him in an instant. This lengthy post is just to testify that you never know when "your time" will come. This man was the image of health and fitness and yuet he fell dead in his prime. Enjoy life and don't "sweat the small stuff".

Along with not sweating the small stuff, when you are ready to move, keep going south until you find that snow blowers and shovels are a special order in the hardware store. That will make for year round rv enjoyment.

Snow is a funny thing. For decades we drove for hours to "see" it and play in it. Oh it was so fun! Then we bought a house at 9000' so we could have a "real" white Christmas vs flying dirt. That was REALLY fun.....for about 2-3 years. First few years we were getting maybe 12' of snow. As a novelty, shoveling 1000 sq.ft. of deck, up and down the stairs and out to the garage was fun.....for a while. Then it became an irritant; then drudgery; then we didn't want to go in the winter any more.

Granted the snowfall has dropped a lot from back then but not enough to make dealing with it fun or enjoyable. Sold the place in March and I haven't missed it a bit. Told DW if I wanted to see snow again I would drive to it. On the other hand, DW asked yesterday if I didn't miss the cabin during the holidays - I just raised my eyebrows, peered over my glasses and said "what are you talking about?" Maybe it's age, maybe it's ?? but seems snow is an anomaly for sure.

A few years into my job at Beaverton PD in the traffic unit. After a meeting, as a joke I told the clerical administer to call the few guys who retired and came back into Police work, the "Depends Unit." She is a lot younger than any of us. She said, "I love you guys you are always dependable."
My reply was, "I am talking about the adult diapers, we all might need them soon." We ranged from me the youngest at 54 to 65 years old.
All the guys got it and laughed, she turned red when she got it and laughed with us.

About 40 years ago, when we left Marquette, MI (average snowfall over 200 inches per year) for Alexandria, LA (average snowfall of 0" per decade), I joked that I was going to put our "nearly worn out snowblower" on a trailer, head south and not stop until everyone was gathered around the trailer, wondering what kind of tiller it was.....

I sold it before we left, but it was "refreshing not to blow snow the following winter" ... That is, until August, when I fully understood why NOBODY in Louisiana has black vinyl interior in their car......

Ah the snow! I'm currently in Sunny Alabama right now. Left Indiana Jan 1 and will return Jan 31, just to get away from the yuck weather in Indiana once in my life!

But since we're talking about snow, here's a couple photos from around the house from years in the past.

I "deal with snow" using a diesel 4WD tractor with a 56" PTO front mount snowblower and for the "light stuff" an Airen's 28" snowblower. The only "shoveling" is the 1 foot next to the garage doors or the pole barn doors.

Last winter I "bogged down" the little one several times. So far, even with 6' and 8' drifts, I haven't been "defeated by white stuff".....

Now that is a nice setup! I’d be looking forward to snowstorms....at least for the first year or so

We never got as much snow as you guys but moving south was the smartest thing we ever did. Except for one funeral I haven't had long pants or soxs on in three years. Now I complain when in the forties and I want to have my morning coffee outside .... we just wait and have lunch outside when it's in the seventies. I feel sorry for folks up north that have to quarantine. Stuck in the house in winter up north would drive me wacky. Yes, it's pretty in pictures but snow is still a four letter word to me.

I take care of our "around 40 acres" which is mostly wooded. The reason for the removeable cab (warm in winter, hung on the wall in summer) is to prevent thousands of dollars in damage to fragile glass doors when driving between trees. A "permanent glass cab" would have been destroyed the first summer.

So far, I've cleared the underbrush on about 5 acres between our house and the lake, built roads to access much of the property and cut/split most of the trees that have been removed. I sell it on an honor system, "around the corner from our house" on a paved road that goes to two state forest campgrounds.

Between snow duties in the winter and road building/tree cutting/underbrush clearing in the summer, it stays busy "almost all year long.
