Power Cord Reel Switch

When retracting my Power Cord fully into its enclosure and securing the door, my retract switch has blinking white light, and does not stop blinking.

There should be a manual for the reel, that will tell you what the light is for.

What is the name brand of the power reel? There are multiple varieties "out there."

Here's a photo of my "power" reel. I now have 2 of these; one for the garden hose and one for the trailer power cord. Um ... right ... THAT is the reel, and I am the POWER!

Power cord reel switch

Hello kohi30, we have a 2021 Alpine 3850 RD and had the same problem. After retracting the cord, the light on the switch kept flashing. I had to turn off 12 volt power and then light went out. Also, it seemed like the hose reel wouldn't release or disengage when I needed to pull the cord out. I called Southwire company who made my switch and was told, when the light is flashing it means switch is bad. After talking with the rep. he stated the switch is not water proof and should be installed in a protected area. Imagine that, Alpine installs a switch on the exterior of the rv that is not made to be open to the weather. I removed the original switch, disconnected the wires, then extended the wires, all the while keeping the wires inside the trailer. Installed a new switch inside the compartment just above the hose reel. No longer open to the weather. Hope this helps you. Also, reinstalled the broken switch to it's original hole.

Thanks, I’ll have a look at the switch. I didn’t even think that the switch could be bad, thought is was some kind of troubleshooting light or warning of some issue with the reel.

Power Cord Reel Switch

If you do test the switch, could you post how you did it. I don't know how you would test it, since it still allows the reel to retract the cord.

Here is the reply Southwire gave me concerning my switch

“Sounds like the little PCB had gotten some corrosion on it.
What you need is a new switch RV3100.”

Did they offer to send you one?

I have a 2022 Alpine and my cord reel will give one pulse out after rolling up the cord. This past weekend, it continued to do a pulse out. would not stop. I had to remove power to the switch to get it to stop doing the one pulse out. It is located exposed to the weather (located on the aluminum skirt next to the reel) and i drove thru a couple of good rain events that day. I'll have to check into the switch not being rated for the weather.

Same here. Two reels n I’m the power. It sure beats pulling it by hand n trying to roll it up. I have my water hose connected to the camper and only pull out what I need.

This is the part that will fix your Shoreline power cord switch light flashing issue

We have a 2021 Alpine 3650RL with the same problem. The light in the switch continually blinks and the reel will not release. We purchased a replacement shoreline switch but the design has changed and it now has a large flange that is a permanent part of the switch. I contacted the manufacturer to inquire about a waterproof enclosure. I was told to simply go to home Depot and choose one there. There is nothing that the new switch fits. I've looked on Amazon and see some Marine momentary switches made by JoinfWorld, and some made for things like winches on a vehicle. Has anybody tried a different switch to operate this cord reel? The Shoreline switch was very expensive (over $115) and some of these alternatives are very reasonable.
