On this day in 1836 the Constitution Delegates passed overwhelmingly Texas' Declaration of Independence. The Alamo was under siege and would fall March 6. The sacrifice of the men of the Alamo gave the delegates time to write the constitution. After the fall of the Alamo Sam Houston was now Commander. Thus began the "Runaway Scrape" of the residents toward Louisiana.
