Wall hole repair?

I had to move the little shade anchoring spoolies out of the way of an enhancement I'm making to my dinette. I was frustrated not to be able to get what I considered a solid mounting job in the flimsy interior walls. I tried introducing mollies, going to larger and larger sizes as the smaller ones just turned in the holes, until I finally got it through my thick head that no matter how big a mollie I used, the wall was never going to grip it tighter than the internal screw would. So I went back to the simple "screw in the wall angled cleverly" approach.

But now I have some unattractive mollie-sized holes in my wall around the spoolie. Rather than try to apply my "stickbuilt" repair experience again, I was wondering what product people recommended to fill in this type of wall damage. Spackle? Caulk? Something else?

It doesn't have to look perfect, as the damage is reasonably well hidden by the window's side valance.

We use putty to fill holes.

Fill the holes with wood putty, sheetrock "foam putty" or even your own mixture of sawdust and glue. Let that dry COMPLETELY, then sand it smooth and refill any cracks or indentations, so you end up with a smooth, dry surface...

Your RV luan walls are finished with a vinyl surface with a print pattern on it. There are usually 3 or 4 different "vinyl patterns" used in each trailer. So, take a good photo of your wall paper pattern and then do a "Google search" for "RV luan seam tape".. (or just go to your local RV service center and ask the parts guy to order you a roll).

You're going to have to "get exact in your choices".. On the link below, you'll notice two "similar looking wallboard seam tapes: voyage galaxy and twine legend. At first glance, you'd easily pick either as similar to what's on your wall, but putting the wrong tape over your putty covered hole will be just as noticeable as the original hole... So choose carefully !!!!!

There is a "representative sample" of Cougar seam tapes on the Trekwood site.

https://www.trekwood.com/parts-searc...23+%2F+Keyword

DO NOT let the price at Trekwood scare you !!!!!! They list it for $50 a roll, but it's available on Amazon, EBay and most RV parts stores for around $12-18 a roll.

Wow, mine looks nothing like any of those (most of them are so dark!) And most of the hits I get from a web search are on dodgy foreign websites and aren't real.

I've determined that most of the damage is going to be hidden by the seat modification anyway, and the remainder is inside the side valance, so I'm just going to pick up some white putty this afternoon and patch the holes just for wall integrity and insulation, and not worry about the wallpaper.

Thanks for the help.

EDIT: Maybe this is the "Voyage Galaxy" pattern... the photos at Trekwood are atrocious.

Fill the holes with anything you choose (wood putty, caulking, something else). After it dries, smooth it out and then use a light grey marker on the spots and color them in. They will never be noticed by anyone except you.

When installing items that I have to cut a hole in the wall...I've gotten into the habit of saving the cutout piece, as the 'wallpaper' can be peeled off and reused!

Ha! I do that, too, mostly to match paint colors! I even saved the factory cutout pieces I found abandoned in cavities (like behind the fusebox when I installed the EMS). So far I have collected fine samples of ceiling, carpet, cabinetry paneling, sheetrock, and wall luan, but not a single piece with my wallpaper on it.

Well, I had a sample of my wall paper once. It was a piece of trim that fell off. You know, those long strips they put between the seams or in the corners or along the ceiling?

But, I don't have it as sample any more, because I put it back in place .... with Liquid Nails. It will never come off again. So, then I went around and decided to check every inch of trim inside the camper. I pulled most of it off. Most just fell off. And then I used Liquid Nails and put it back on.

So, if you need a sampling, you might see if a smaller section of trim with the wall paper wrapped out it will come off the wall easy. More than likely it will, with no effort.

It's just a thought on how you can get a sample to color match at your local home improvement store.

Is covering with a blank electrical plate an option?

For anyone wanting to use molly anchors in the walls of their rigs, spend a few dollars for one of these setting tools and you will never have an anchor spin when installing. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=molly+bol..._ts-doa-p_4_17

I have usually been able to find an inconspicuous spot (e.g., under the dinette bench or inside the bathroom vanity) where I can trim off a small piece of seam tape and glue it to a hole that needs covering.

Since I might be in to do some wall work I came up with an idea on this. Although it might cost about $7-9 a square foot...I was thinking of taking a patch of the wall, scanning it and having custom made cloth wallpaper made. this would allow me to wallpaper the entire wall and match the rest of the unit.

Has anyone attempted this?

I suppose if you can't just find the OG wallpaper at Trekwood. The problem with Trekwood (besides the shipping cost) isn't that they don't have what you need, it's that you can't tell they have it, from the awful photos and arbitrary category organization on their website.
