Help figuring hitch and towing

I just bought a 2012 Dodge Ram 2500 larime mega cab 4x4 with the 6.7 Cummings turbo diesel engine.
It came with a class IV hitch.

I was towing with a 1996 Chevy crew cab CK 4x4 3500 gas with a class V hitch.

I tow a 2021 Keystone outback 335CG.

I kept my curt true track wd sway control hitch.

My questions are. Is the class IV hitch on the truck enough?

Thank you for any thoughts and help

Your Class IV hitch is likely not stout enough and you should change to a Class V on the Ram. Your camper's gross weight is 10,500 lbs and tongue weight will be over 1300 lbs if you are fully loaded. Check the chart etrailer provides:

What George said is true, but vehicle manufacturers (GM, Ford, RAM) have a habit of "naming receivers by the "receiver size (1.25, 2, 2.5") rather than by the actual reciver classification.

As an example, all "class IV receivers" have 2" square tubes....

Not all "class V receivers" have 2.5" square tubes. Class V receivers can be manufactured with 2, 2.5, or 3" square tubes....

It's entirely possible that you have a "class V receiver" with a 2" square tube... On the other hand, you could have a "class IV receiver" with a 2" square tube installed on your truck...

Have you actually confirmed (by part number or by receiver tag decal) the class rating for the receiver under your truck ?

You might "confirm the need for an upgrade to class V or you might be "pleasantly surprised" that it's already there....

In short, you can't determine the class rating by the size of the square tube. Check the decal or the part number... Maybe you've already done this, but it never hurts to check.

What's the tow rating for your truck? The rating shouldn't be more than the hitch is capable of. The rating for my 2500 is 14,000 and 1,400 lbs. The manufacture wouldn't list numbers greater than the hitch capabilities. Your truck being newer I would be very surprised if the tow rating was less.

I did check the hitch and the build on the truck it is a class IV hitch 2-inch receiver. I did have a class V 2-inch on my chevy. I will start looking for a class V that tucks up under the bumper any suggestions would be appreciated. the curt frame hitch E-trailer lists for my RAM puts it at 7 inches under the bumper even if the factory hitch is removed, I don't care for that as I will lose ground clearance. Thank you guys for the help.

I have an older Ram 1500 hemi beater truck, the hitch receiver is damaged from a rear end collision. Ive had a hard time finding a hitch to replace it in aftermarket.
The oem version is what you want to get either from a junkyard or ebay because it’s almost like it’s part of the frame and strength for the rear end on Ram pickups….they almost all come with a reciever hitch factory installed.

I had a 2012 Ram crew cab laramie 4x4 with the class four hitch..my son has a 2013 Ram big horn with the class 5

i would get under your truck now and start spraying PB Blaster or an equivalent on the bolts under there now and every few days because the ones on my 1500 are almost permanently seized and i just don’t have the time or patience to deal with them right now because i have other vehicles i can use to move trailers around.
I was going to order a oem from ebay because i tried an aftermarket but it didn’t fit correctly.
Here is what you need on ebay right now
