The Value of Regular Maintenance

Many of us do our own trailer maintenance, some choose to "hire it out" to an RV service facility and others "beg, borrow or barter" with someone to do the dirty work for them... Still others choose to simply ignore the manual and defer any/all maintenance until things break and can't be ignored any longer...

Whatever your choice, here's a part of an email I received from CW today. It lists two of their maintenance/service jobs with the regular price and the "current sales price"... The email was an "encouragement to call today and schedule your appointment"... Since it's still "dead middle of winter" in upper Michigan, I think I'll wait a bit longer, then pull the trailer out of the pole barn and do my own "spring cleanup"...

For me, it's "profitable to do my own work". For others, maybe not so much...
Here's a part of the email:

I do 99% of my own routine maintenance. But the one thing I do let my local RV dealership repair facility do is the bearings. I don't have the equipment to lift the trailer to do my own work for this chore. Everything else, I do myself.

I have my bearings done since I fell down a mountain several years back. Good thing is they know what they're doing. Even better thing is it's (was) $30 per wheel plus new bearings if needed. That price included checking the brakes and adjusting them (now I've got disc brakes). CW is VERY proud of their work....

We need to revise our axle service prices, we don’t charge enough.

I was shocked (well more surprised) at the prices CW charges for basic wheel bearing repacking. Even more surprised at the cost to scrub a trailer roof and reseal the roof fittings. I guess "maybe I could justify $300 for a 2 axle trailer to repack the bearings (if I had to choke the cost down)... But, $425 to wash the roof and smear on a tube of DICOR ????? WOW, just WOW !!!!!
