Sliding bed drawers and a bumper pull trailer ?

Is anyone using a sliding bed drawer system? For example, decked. https://decked.com/products/decked-drawers

If so, what kind accessibility do you have to the drawers, while hooked up to the trailer?

I no longer have a bumper pull travel trailer, but considering my past usage I think access would be limited to only the distance those sliding trays could extend out before hitting the trailer tongue jack or the propane tanks.

We pulled a pumper pull for a long, long, long time. My solution was always a truck cap topper. However, I did not want any topper, I wanted something that some substance to it and could be used as a work-horse too. I got a construction worker's style type of truck cap. My truck has a the full 8 foot bed, so I ordered the cap with the 2 - 8 foot shelves on each side for a total of 32 feet of shelf space. On the top was installed a ladder rack, perfect for transporting our canoe with the travel trailer, and all the canoe stuff fit on side of truck cap shelves. We carried outriggers, life jackets, seat cushions, anchor, ropes, and a platform the dogs could sit on. The other side was filled with lumber for leveling and jacking the trailer.

Inside the truck bed, I could easily carry the blue sewer tote, fire wood, tools, spare tires, air compressor, generator, sewer hoses, a 7 foot step ladder, a 35 gallon fresh water tank, and still had room to spare.

I think such an arrangement made better sense than adding sliding trays for us.

When we got the fifth wheel, the topper disappeared. Things got shifted around, and we no longer carry the canoe, which is OK, because we are older now and that canoe was heavy.

This was our previous trailer (previous truck)

This was 2 trailer ago (previous truck)

I would visit a scale and find out how much of that Frontier's payload is available before buying one. Add the 200 to 300 lbs for the drawers, then fill them with "stuff" and you may exceed the payload with the trailer hitched up.

Marshall has a good point!
I'd be surprised if your Nissan has much more the a 1000lb payload being 4x4 CC version. Subtract from that payload 600lb tongue weight + 100lb hitch + people/ pets/stuff in the truck + that toolbox full would be too much.
If your anything like me with a toolbox that size it would be full before you know it with all the "yea I may need that" stuff in it.

I never said I was putting sliding drawers in our frontier. Y’all assumed that. The payload of my frontier has been discussed, in detail, on this site. By some of you who replied to this thread?

My two cents - some of you need to chill out on payload. Your turning people off to this site. I’m not saying entirely, as some people do need educated on it. Some of you use every possible opportunity to bring it up. As evidenced in this very thread.

The reason I asked, we test drove and talked numbers on a new one ton yesterday. I was plotting and planning for what to do on that vehicle. Sliding drawers? Camper shell? Tonneau? Ladder rack?A bestop or snugtop? Nothing?
However, the dealer didn’t want to budge. Which I’m aware of in this market. We test drove this same truck back in August.

FWIW! You DID NOT say you weren't putting them in the Nissan in your signature. Or that you were looking to put them in a real truck.

Early to bed, Early to rise; makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. Well at least I am healthy, not so much the latter.

My dad has a bed slide in his 5 1/2 ft bed. It's not as handy with his trailer hitched, but still pretty nice as he has a camper shell attached and that keeps him from having to climb in.

He mentioned maybe forgoing the slide on his next truck and just going with a flat, rigid bed cover.

I built a home made version of the decked system. Was originally a full 8 foot length drawers. But when i switched to a diesel pickup, i traded the front 2 ish feet of the drawers for fuel storage. This set up is very specific, needing the bed still to haul the rzr on top of the deck, and still hook up the travel trailer. I don't have any pics of it all hooked up and drawers pulled out, but i can pull them roughly half way out while hooked up. I'll try to add a pic of the whole rig hooked up, you'll be able to see how elevated the rzr is, and a rough idea of space.

We are in Quartzsite, gonna hook up today. I will try to get some pictures and give you a better idea.

Not with this pickup, but this trailer and a previous pickup, i did have to rotate the tongue jack 90 degrees to be able to fully lower the tailgate while hooked up. I think that will be a factor also, depending on your exact setup.
