Solar suitcase

Hi and TIA! Thinking of purchasing a portable solar “suitcase” and looking to you all for experiential advice. No plans for extended boondocking but could be helpful for occasional dry days. What say you?

I use the Zamp 200w suitcase. Been very pleased. Renogy was actually my 1st choice but found the Zamp locally from a private seller at HUGE cost savings. There are several good quality brands but Renogy, Zamp and Go Power seem to cover the market pretty well.
Look for a "used" bargain if cost is any issue.

Suit case is a good setup.

Just make sure it’s secure from being blown over during a wind gust and breaking the glass, happened to my son…

One thing I will say is I bought mine last October just like you for the occasional boondocking….I also purchased and installed a xantrex 2000 watt inverter at the same time…I felt like I needed it to complete the rig and it was on my list of “must haves”………..I’ve yet to use either one

How about something like this to trickle charge the battery in the winter:

Not sure I'd trust the [Intelligent Protection] Combined with built-in charging microprocessor technology". A good controller would keep the batteries from overcharging but I'm not sure this qualifies at this price point. If your rig is stored where you can access it easily then it might be ok assuming you check the batteries often enough. Our Cougar is stored next to the house, so I just bring the batteries in for the winter and put them on a battery tender. During the camping season I have it plugged in and use the onboard converter to keep the batteries charged. I check them at least monthly for voltage and water levels.
