Looks like a member on the Jayco forum responded to the accident and has a strong message for those exceeding their limits: https://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f...way-85020.html

I thought at first it was something out of a Hollywood movie set. Wow! Safety chains...who would have thunk.

Not sure it was a question of the camper being too much for the truck which was a one tone Ford. Think it was more about the driver pushing too hard on the gas pedal.

I thought when I read the thread it was stated overloaded and speed. Anyway, one lucky family any way you slice it.

Not sure how how many people live in that area but if it had happened in Medina County where I live, we have no fire fighters or rescue qualified or equipped to handle this type situation... Bexar County rescue would be called and this would be an hour or two wait. Can't imagine dangling in that truck for ANY length of time. Those guys in Idaho did a fantastic job and were obviously well trained.

I agree completely! Those guys did one heck of a job in a very precarious situation. That post and video should be required watching/reading for anyone thinking they will stretch it to the edge on weights or speed. One chain.....holy cow!!

The news story stated F150 but in photos it is a Super Duty.
We have not been across that bridge yet, I looked up the gorge depth and it is 250 feet.
A few years ago a lifted P/U driven by a drunk went over a highway overpass and was hanging on by the rear end. As I recall, 1 wheel/tire was on the street side of the barrier holding the truck. The city FD ladder truck hooked up chains before a tow/crane arrived. Driver was removed by firemen on the ladder roping down to get the drunk driver. In that 1, the trucks front end had a 10 foot fall or so. I blocked overpass traffic for some time. Others had to shut down the freeway. At end of shift, when everyone got together, most guessed the wheel/tire or rear end would have broken loose, but never did.

Another picture.. not sure if this one was posted... they had a lot of time to reevaluate their life ...I’m sure a lot of things that seemed really important earlier that day were not even thought of.. makes you realize not to sweat the small stuff... take your time getting to a campground..and if you need to get back to work on a Monday then maybe leave on Saturday and not try to drive straight thru..and most importantly always hug and kiss your loved ones and let them know they are important...our time on earth can be limited by our own mistakes or others... but is definitely hanging by a thread on some occasions

Red highlight is so important. Many years ago our youngest daughter's best friend's father died. His family went to their mother's house every Sunday for dinner. His sister (an intensive care cardiac nurse) was talking to her brother as he leaned up against the kitchen wall when he just slide down the wall dead. Massive heart attack that no one saw coming. He was very fit, a scuba dive instructor, etc. From that day until this our daughters never leave or house or hang up the phone without first saying "I love you".

I'm guessing a lot of praying was going on in that truck and apparently were answered when they were extricated. That had to hit hard when the chains stopped the travel and it arced into that bridge structure.

Here is another view of the accident, it shows more of what the couple in the truck were looking at.

Looks like a long way down.

Be careful out there.

The couple made a statement on TV today. They lived full time in the TT, he said wind picked up and made him lose control.
I did see a new photo of the trailer from the rear and noted what looked like a big carrier attached to the rear bumper. It was stacked with containers.
No information about the hitch system.
Without proof, just using the information they lived in the TT, it could have been overloaded and when seeing the rear bumper area stacked with cargo. It could have been improperly loaded. That could have been a factor in the wind causing loss of control. It was mentioned in the first post, witnesses said he was traveling to fast.
They were in the truck hanging over the railing for over an hour. Thankfully they were not killed.
