Remote RV lock help
I have a 2016 Keystone Bullet Premier 19FBPR that we want to install a remote door lock.
I ordered the RV Lock and it is real nice but the hole in the door is 3 1/4” x 4 1/4” and the RV Lock doesn’t quite cover the hole.
Has anyone used this lock or find another remote lock that will fit?
Thanks...Sonny

Not what you asked but IMO the best thing you can do with a remote lock is replace it with a keyed version.. Less trouble and no batteries to replace every couple of days...

I agree. I wouldn’t put a remote key in anything I own.

Unfortunately I can’t help much with the large size hole issue. Ours fit in the hole the original lock/ handle came out of no problem.
But...I have to say the RV lock with keypad has saved my butt more than one weekend when our camper is left at the campground for a few weeks at a time. Last weekend is case in point. When we were about at the campground, 3 hours from home, is when I realized I didn’t have the camper keys with me. No problem. Key in our lock code, and unlock door to camper. Get spare set of keys out of cabinet to unlock the outside storage and basement. Saved me another 6 hour round trip just to get the keys. The batteries in it last all summer for us. Put them in in the spring when get it out of storage, take them out in early winter when putting it in storage for the winter. Accidentally Left them in one winter and they still worked next spring. For us, it works great. And there is a key if the batteries die -and you have the keys with you.

Usually keep a set in the driver side door pocket and a TT door key hidden outside of TT.

Me too. There's a lot to be said for those old "flint box magnetic keyholders" that hold a trailer key in an out of the way place.....
Not much is more defeating than driving 6 hours to "that perfect campsite" and be asked, "Honey, where's the key to the door?"..... and it's not in you pocket......

Keys were my livelihood for 25+ yrs. can’t say I’ve ever forgotten the trailer keys at home. They hang on the turn signal switch and checking for them is a habit.

We drove from Palmdale to Carpinteria for a weekend on the beach. We left Friday after work (4:30) and didn't get to Carpinteria State Park until almost 3AM (lousy traffic jams, even in 1971). Needless to say, we didn't have a lock on the trailer door that weekend. It was either that or an 8 hour drive back to Palmdale.
That was the last time we didn't have a spare set of keys and a means to get to them in every vehicle, trailer, toy, home we have owned..... Lesson learned the hard way !!!!!

Remember that cheap bumper on the back, about all it is good for is a place to hide spare keys inside.

We LOVE our keyless entry from RV Lock. It’s one of our top mods!!
It seems like ours came with a thin black insert you could put behind the new lock in case there was a little overlap when they were switched out. I saw a video where someone needed to use that piece and you would have never known. Luckily, ours fit just fine.

Thanks for all the replies.
I took a sheet of aluminum larger than the hole and then cut a hole the size of the RV Lock mechanism so that it will fit between the outside lock and the door surface. Painted the aluminum black.
Going to try that and if it works ok will do something similar inside,
I can see both points of view on these type locks but have used keyless locks for years and really enjoyed them. Really helped the WAF.
The others we used did send notifications of who opened them etc and that is nice.
Thanks for everyone's replies...

I had to replace my door lock because a part broke inside and found out that Keystone at least on my Passport 2400BH takes a special lock that is sized different than all other industry locks. I forget the name of the company but even when you look on their "helpful" website it makes no reference to this lock model unless you call them out of frustration and they will sell you a replacement.

I had the opposite problem, my hole was a bit to small. i had to file about a quarter inch away. Glad you got it going, i love my lock. Can give code to friend to open door and then relock.

That was my thinking also.
Have a dog and if something happened we could call someone to handle whatever was needed.

I have a set of 5er keys on my truck key chain. A spare set of all keys is in the truck. Ford has the coded door lock if a set is lost. Only way to go!

I have the exact same problem. These locks are also so cheaply made. I bought the chrome ones, but they were too small. I was told that 99% of the locks are the smaller ones. We have the 1%. I can't really go anywhere because both of my locks are not working. Even when they did, you have to manipulate it until it unlocks or locks. Mine is 2015 Coyote 326 SRX. The next time I go I will take the lock with me. I just didn't think it would be a problem.

Go a quality metal shop with a laser cutter. They will make a very nice looking plate out of stainless steel. Will also make doors little stronger
