WDH and CAT Scale Weights

I took my trailer by a CAT scale this morning. I'm curious about other setups with WDH. I have the Equalizer 4-point. Originally my dealer set mine up, but I checked it at home after adding some items. Based on a tape measure, the distribution seemed right. What I found at the scales is somewhat different.

Front Axle without Trailer: 3400 lbs
Front Axle with Trailer but without distribution: 3080 lbs
Front Axle with Trailer and distribution: 3220 lbs

Currently I'm only putting 140 lbs back on the front axle. I believe I should add another washer to increase the hitch head angle, but wanted to get some feedback. I'm currently at 6 washers.

Add washer or raise brackets. The front should be the same hight loaded to unloaded within 1/4 in.

Bracket is raised to the highest setting, so I'll add a washer. By the tape measure, it's really close to the same height (less than 1/8").

I have the same hitch and TT. I currently have 6 washers in the hitch. The Equalizer book says the front height should be 1/2 way or less between unloaded and loaded without WDH. I'm about 1/4" from unloaded. I don't have a CAT Scale nearby so I can't do the axle weights. Did they have any issue with you tying up the scales for all the different measurements, unhooking, etc...?

They won't let you drop the trailer on the scale. You go up on the scale and make sure the wheels are on the different pads. They have the steer axle pad, drive axle pad, and trailer pad. Then you hit the call button and say new weigh. They make you drive and park your setup. You go in and pay $10.50 for the initial weigh. At this point, I took off the WDH bars and put them in the truck bed. Then I got on the scale again and said reweigh. The ask for the ticket number from the first weigh in. Then you can park again and pay $2.00 for the reweigh.

After sending an email to Equalizer, they said that weight is fine. I can try another washer if I want, but it's all about how it feels while towing. Basically if you won't have sway, then you don't need to adjust.

Thanks. I'm guessing you also did a reweigh without the TT too?

Yes, I actually dropped it off at the dealer for some warranty work and came back for the reweigh. I was able to get the hitch weight and front axle weight from the empty truck. They said that you can reweigh up to 24 hours after the first.

Where did you weigh? I'm just outside Austin and haven't found any CAT scales within an hour.

I weighed in Seguin. The Keystone dealer is about 2 blocks from the Love's with a CAT scale.

There's a scrap metal place in South Austin that will do weights. I took my truck there empty before I bought the trailer. Doing the CAT scale at Love's was easier.

I added a 7th washer and picked up the TT from the dealer today. The extra washer was able to add 140 lbs to the front axle. It also took 180 lbs off the rear axle. The other 40 lbs went to the trailer axles.

I'm at 3360 lbs. on the front axle. Empty is was 3400 lbs. It's as perfect as it can get.

Well played! Nice to know there is one more properly setup trailer on the roads we all share. I'll bet it's confident inspiring to drive now.

I weighed in North Carolina last week and they let me disconnect my fiver to get all the weights I wanted. I weighed 3 times to get all the combinations.

I need a local business to install a CAT scale close to Southern MD.

I'm surprised they let you drop it on the scale. They told me I couldn't unhitch it on the scale.

I told them what I wanted to do, he even told me how the last guy did it. I unhooked the camper on the first two scales to get axle weights and landing gear weights, then had the truck on the last scale to get its total weight (which I already had from a previous weight).
