LED Awning light strip very dim

I have a 2015 Laredo and the exterior light is an LED light strip under the awning. Mine is very dim now. You can see it is turned on but gives no usable light. When new it was quite bright. Can I just replace the strip with another LED strip light?

I suppose it's possible that the LED strip "could" be faulty, but it seems difficult to imagine that all of the LED's would suddenly "go dim"... I suspect that somewhere, either at the end of the LED strip or in the wall by the switch, you've got a bad connection and you're not getting 12 VDC to the strip. Before replacing it and finding the new strip is also dim, I'd do some troubleshooting on the wiring, connections and switch. I think you'll probably find the strip is functional and the problem is elsewhere. Good Luck

Thanks John, I think you could be right. As soon as I can find a ladder (we're in the trailer now for the winter) I want to try to check the voltage at the end of the strip. It seems to have gotten more dim over time.

I checked the voltage to the strip and it is OK, so I have ordered another LED strip from Amazon to replace the original one. Should get it in a day or so.

While you're waiting for the new strip to arrive, have you considered disconnecting the strip at the awning rail and applying 12 volts from a know "fully charged battery" at that point? It could save you some "change out hassles"..... and even if the current strip doesn't work, then you'll know it's faulty.

Beware of buying certain led strips. The IP65 is not really waterproof. But the IP68 is a much better strip. That's what I put up. I have some IP65 under the unit for color and they don't last. This who I picked mine up from. All u need is a single controller. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00WKQ...recreation+pro
They sell them in 20' , 16' , and 12'.

Or just a 12v switch will work but it's fully on. The remote can be put in line after your switch and then u will have dimming capabilities

I've replaced the original led strip with one from Amazon. It is like this one http://www.amazon.com/Triangle-Bulbs...5%3A2470955011

It's plenty bright. I just cut the wires and spliced the new one in place. A 10 minute job.
