Electric Brakes

My prodigy brake pad shows o.L when the brakes are appled. I called the company (prodigy) and the tech said there is a problem with the trailer brakes. Somewhere inside a drum there is/are swinging magnets to activate the trailer brakes when the tow vehicle brakes are applied and that there must be a bare wire grounding out not allowing the brakes to activate.

Has anyone heard of this and if so what is the fix?

The two times I got the same signal on our controller is was a signal that the brakes had actually worn down to metal. This was on a 16 foot enclosed cargo trailer. One of those times I had to replace one drum and have the other three turned. Just pull one of the drums and have a look-see.

Not up on the different trailers nor did you say how old your trailer is. Nor did you say if you have pulled this trailer previously with no problems.

Personally, I would start with the simplest inspection first. As the Etrailer link stated, check for corrosion and/or a wire shorting to ground. I would visually inspect the wiring from the trailer plug to the brake wiring going into each wheel. If no problems found, then start checking each brake assembly by pulling the drums for problems.

Thanks for the replies and SORRY for not saying I just bought the trailer 2 weeks ago. Had two others before this one with no brake issues on either of them.

Spoke with tech today, (where I purchased it), he said he has seen this a few times and will check it out and/or just run new wire to drums, etc.
