Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area

Thinking of camping at Flaming Gorge next year around the end of August. The scenery looks spectacular on the web, but am having trouble finding a camp ground that is attractive. Can anyone recommend a place they like to stay there?

As a point of reference, I think the Lucerne campground looks ugly - too barren.

We stayed at Buckboard last year. The northern campgrounds (east and west of the water) are desolate and very windy. You may want to consider campgrounds toward the southern end (Utah) and away from the reservoir.

The last time we were at Flaming Gorge we stayed in the KOA in Vernal Utah. This was quiet a few years ago and though the campground was nothing special it was well maintained. Visit Dinosaur National Monument http://www.nps.gov/dino/index.htm while you are there as it is very interesting. Any way Flaming Gorge is about 50 miles form Vernal.
